Overview

Bechtel has a long tradition of technical and engineering excellence in supporting multiple industries. Bechtel's internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience. Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a student intern.

 

Electrical Engineering Interns work in multidisciplinary teams and provide support to the design of electrical power systems and equipment for a variety of industry projects.

 

The total number of interns and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions. Locations will vary based on project needs, and may include Houston, TX or Reston, VA, along with various project sites.

 

General Job Duties

Electrical Engineering interns may be responsible for:

  • preparing single-line, metering and relaying, schematics, and protection logic drawings;
  • performing electrical system, equipment sizing, and auxiliary system calculations;
  • sizing, selecting, and specifying transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, and distribution panels;
  • sizing, selecting, and specifying power, control, and instrumentation cables;
  • sizing, selecting, and specifying direct-current/uninterruptible power supplies and emergency generator systems
  • performing raceway, grounding, lighting, and cathodic protection drawings

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Electrical Engineering at an accredited college or university
  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in one of the above fields
  • Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites
  • Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master of Science degree program in Electrical Engineering at an accredited college or university
  • Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA
  • Prior co-op or internship experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
