2020 Student Internship (U.S.) - Industrial/Systems Engineer

Overview

Bechtel has a long tradition of technical and engineering excellence in supporting multiple industries.  Bechtel's internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience.  Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a student intern.

 

Industrial/Systems Engineering Interns work with multi-disciplinary engineers to provide support to the project's systems engineering team throughout the lifecycle of the project (design through commissioning testing).

 

The total number of interns and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions.  Locations will vary based on project needs and may include Reston, Virginia, along with variious project sites.

 

General Job Duties

Industrial/Systems Engineering Interns may be responsible for:

  • Assisting in developing functional/system analysis to define facility/system design requirements.
  • Assisting in establishing the means of verifying requirements implementation, including acceptance criteria.
  • Assisting in the preparation of system and facility design criteria documents.
  • Supporting system-level design verification, requirements verification, test requirements specification, and requirements flowdown and traceability.
  • Assisting the development of impact analyses for proposed requirement changes.
  • Assisting the preparation of assessments to validate and verify implementation and traceability of requirements into design.
  • Participating in technical discussions to resolve system design issues.
  • Researching and documenting system operations and limits from the review of design and basis documents and from discussions with system designers.
  • Performing model-based systems engineering using a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) automation tool (e.g. IBM® Rationale DOORS® or Innoslate by Spec Innovations).

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering or Industrial Engineering at an accredited university or college.
  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in one of the above fields
  • Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites
  • Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Member of the International Council of Systems Engineering (INCOSE)
  • Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA
  • Prior co-op or internship experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
