Welding Field Engineer / NDE Level III, AUT (Monaca, PA)

Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline for a particular area of the project.  Provides engineering assistance to superintendents, directs assigned personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality and assures results meet design requirements.

On a large project, functions as a lead discipline engineer, coordinating related discipline activities and interfacing with other areas/disciplines on the jobsite.
On a small to medium-sized project, performs the duties of a lead engineer in an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or performs the duties as a Project Field Engineer or Project Field Quality Control Engineer coordinating activities related to the operation of the assigned operating section of the jobsite.



Position requires previous experience in responsibilities typical of a NDE Level III. Job responsibilities will include:

- Support project and supplier applications for new technology such as Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT)

- Implementation of Bechtels Welding Program in relation to requirements of the various GBUs.

- Requires technical knowledge and experience in ASME III, B31.1, VIII, and Section I in relation to the Power industry for both fossil and nuclear programs with emphasis as they relate to the performance of Ultrasonic Testing (UT) or AUT in lieu of RT.

- Support the preparation, development, and qualification of specialized NDE procedures.

- Travel to US domestic and international projects to provide field support as required.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Corporate Level III and/or the Manager of Welding & NDE Services.

- Candidate must be able to implement NDE procedures and techniques, develop and implement NDE training programs, implement NDE certification programs, provide NDE technical services and consultation to various types of design and construction projects.



- Previous Level II or III experience in the visual, radiographic, and ultrasonic methods is necessary. Previous Level III certification in at least a combination of NDE methods is required.

- 15 years experience with UT and NDE related codes and standards.

- 15 years experience in administering Automated UT programs.

- 5 years experience with the implementation of an established welding and NDE program.

- 5 years experience in field engineering.

- Must have comprehensive knowledge of Ultrasonic Phased-Array and Time of Flight Diffraction principles.

- Must have demonstrated ability to develop, qualify, and implement specialized ultrasonic examination techniques.

- Must have a minimum of 10 years experience as a certified NDE Level II in applicable NDE methods.

- Must possess a high school diploma.

- Must have the right to work and remain in the United States.

- Must possess or be able to obtain a United States issued passport.

- Must have above average computer skills.

- Must be capable of passing Operating Nuclear Facility Security Clearance screening requirements.



- Associates degree in engineering/science study from a two year technical college or university plus two years experience as a certified NDE Level III, in applicable NDE methods. Previous Level II certification will be considered with eventual qualification to Level III.

- Past experience in implementing or providing oversight for ASME B&PV Code Case 2235 applications, or similar UT in lieu of RT program.

- Past experience as a radiographic Level II or III.

- Previous qualification in the leak testing, magnetic particle, and liquid penetrant methods is preferred.

- Additional study or minor degree in NDE / Materials Evaluation is considered equivalent.

- Strong UT skills and past experience with Time of Flight Diffraction (ToFD) and Phased-Array  (P-A) AUT are a strong plus.

- ASNT endorsement will be considered but is not required.

- Past EPRI UT qualification such as IGSCC endorsements, EPRI Flaw Sizing, ASME XI PDI, EPRI VT experience, or any other industry recognized qualification is a plus.

-Additional qualifications in ultrasonic examination (UT) are preferred:

- Previous EPRI Training (IGSCC Detection, Planar Flaw Sizing, PDI, etc.)

- Knowledge of Automated UT Systems (data acquisition and analysis)

- Knowledge of ASME XI examination and flaw evaluation criteria
