Job Summary:

Serves as the liaison between Project Procurement for reporting of undelivered materials, Field Procurement for stored materials, and Construction personnel for accurate reporting of materials required for work package installation. Coordinates with responsible groups that materials are provided in a timely manner and in sufficient quantity to support the completion of construction work. Ensures accurate distribution of materials to Construction and/or (Sub) Contractor installation locations. Implements planned inventory control mechanisms, assists in early identification of surplus or unneeded materials, and coordinates material availability in support of design revisions or rework. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Lead materials coordination or planners on a large project or works within business line Supply Chain department in a functional role in a small to medium sized GBU 
  • Provides expertise, advice, and direction for project and field materials management activities to ensure the overall organizational effectiveness among all functions responsible for the materials management process 
  • Reviews the initial master schedule, detailed timing and sequence of each functional group, and actual progress of each group to confirm that materials meet required delivery dates 
  • Reviews any schedule revisions for impacts and participates in the development of contingency planning 
  • Interfaces between Construction and Supply Chain to identify, requisition and establish delivery dates for material requirements resulting from design changes, rework, contingency/work arounds, scope changes, or materials missed in Engineering takeoffs 
  • Reviews plans at the jobsite for adequacy of material warehousing, maintenance, control, and handling 
  • Coordinates with Construction and Field Supply Chain the plans for material identification, material availability in support of installation plans, and equipment requiring special handling at the site 
  • Formulates specialized training and career development programs necessary to assure that all assigned material management personnel are properly trained and qualified 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of either project procurement operations related to the acquisition of materials on projects, or of the engineering discipline within the area of responsibility, the work process, and the deliverables produced (must have a basic knowledge of the other). 
  • Knowledge in the use of systems such as the Digital Supply Chain System (DSCS) and SiteSense. 
  • Knowledge of vendor, fabricator, contractor, customer and other outside data systems and how those systems interact with 
  • DSCS Knowledge of work packaging, pre-buy methodology, and materials status reporting. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Knowledge of applicable Bechtel policies, instructions, and procurement procedures and guidelines.
