Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will manage the project sustainability programs. You will assist functional leads to ensure requirements are properly integrated and be responsible for overall project sustainability execution. Your leadership will help achieve the project sustainability performance expectations, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Major Responsibilities:
- Achieve and maintain compliance with relevant legislation and ESG reporting requirements
- Arrange, facilitate and support ongoing collection of data from the business to support our Carbon Net Zero ambition.
- Identify cost savings and efficiencies through carbon reduction and energy management
- Act as a liaison for ESG-related regulatory audits, investigations, client and external stakeholder engagement
- Manages the scope, schedule, and cost of a large complex high risk/high complexity sustainability program for the Project
- Plans, implements, and maintains the project sustainability programs to reduce the social and/or environmental impacts of operations and enhance social and environmental benefits
- Supports and participates in strategy, planning, estimating resources/staff and budgets, implementation, project execution support, policy and procedure management, issues management, internal and external communications, customer/sector stakeholder engagement, knowledge management, measurement and reporting, risk management, and continuous improvement
- Monitors trends in sustainable standards, technology, etc. and considers potential for implementation in the organization
- Monitors and facilitates progress of sustainability program for the Project consistent with strategies, goals, measurements, and reporting standards
- Coordinates with GBU lead to develop scope of work, then manages subcontractors/consultants with sustainability scope
- Interfaces and coordinates with other functions and disciplines to optimize expertise and resources
- Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of Sustainability personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly
- Executes project, functional or departmental execution plans and contributes to the development of Project, functional, or departmental strategies
- Ensures that assigned Sustainability personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development
- Develop communications in the business to improve the centralisation of sustainability data in the business
- Work with Communications team to ensure appropriate, accurate and useful information is available to all stakeholders in accordance with approved Project plans
- Respond to queries from colleagues, suppliers, customers, investors and other external stakeholders regarding sustainability issues
- Reviewing suppliers' approach to sustainability and address any issues identified across the supply chain
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor’s or Master's degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental, safety, health or science-related discipline and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience, including at least 10 years in sustainability or ESG-related roles; has performed the same role on similar size/complexity project.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Polish speaking preferred.
- Deep expertise in EU sustainability regulations, such as CSRD, CSDDD, EU Taxonomy, SDR, and TCFD, as well as global ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, ISSB).
- Recognized as a subject matter expert in the field with specialized skill set.
- Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for varied audiences.
- Experience managing scope/schedule/budget associated with a complex sustainability program.
- Experience in Supervising teams.
