Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
The Senior Interface Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing interface activities within the Engineering discipline for the AP1000 Poland project. This role operates within a multidisciplinary environment comprising Bechtel teams, NS&E designers, client-appointed design consultants, and downstream contractors, ensuring effective coordination and integration in line with project and regulatory requirements. The position is accountable for establishing and maintaining robust technical interface frameworks, standards, and processes to enable seamless integration across engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
The role requires close collaboration with multiple functions and stakeholders to address technical matters related to the design and construction of infrastructure works, including tunnelling, marine, levelling, and deep excavation scopes. The Senior Interface Coordinator ensures alignment of design deliverables, constructability considerations, and regulatory compliance across all interfacing parties.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight of all engineering, procurement, and construction interfaces (both internal and external) associated with the design and execution of the AP1000 project infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Drive alignment of project goals and objectives across all interfacing parties, ensuring engineering activities are executed in accordance with client procedures, nuclear safety requirements, technical risk management practices, and applicable regulatory and quality assurance standards.
- Establish and maintain the overall interface management framework, ensuring that scope, design basis, and technical objectives are clearly defined and aligned across disciplines, contractors, and stakeholders. This includes development and alignment of execution plans, contract management strategies, change management processes, and critical cross-functional workflows.
- Ensure that quality requirements are clearly defined and effectively implemented across all interface areas, with continuous monitoring of compliance with contractual and regulatory commitments, and periodic assessment of client satisfaction with engineering quality.
- Promote the application of continuous improvement principles, including adoption of best practices, lessons learned from comparable nuclear and heavy civil projects, and structured value engineering to enhance project outcomes.
- Support cost-conscious decision-making by promoting awareness of Total Installed Cost (TIC) considerations across engineering interfaces and ensuring alignment between design decisions and project cost objectives.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Recognised Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 20+ years of progressive experience in large-scale infrastructure, heavy civil, or nuclear projects, with demonstrated capability in managing complex engineering interfaces.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Significant experience in project delivery within EPC or ECI environments, including cost-reimbursable project models, with a strong understanding of multidisciplinary integration across engineering, procurement, and construction.
- Strong knowledge of nuclear or highly regulated project environments, including familiarity with applicable regulatory frameworks, safety requirements, environmental compliance, and quality assurance standards.
- Broad, cross-disciplinary understanding of engineering design, construction methodologies, constructability, and field execution, including coordination across civil, mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering domains.
- Proven capability in managing technical interfaces across multiple stakeholders, including NS&E designers, client representatives, contractors, and regulatory bodies, ensuring alignment of scope, design basis, and execution objectives.
- Strong working knowledge of project management processes, including planning, scheduling, estimating, risk analysis, contingency evaluation, and proposal/estimate review processes.
- Demonstrated experience in applying best practices, lessons learned, and value engineering principles to enhance project outcomes in complex infrastructure or nuclear projects.
- Thorough understanding of construction technologies, constructability principles, and site execution practices, particularly within tunnelling, marine, and groundworks environments.
- Working knowledge of environmental compliance requirements and ES&H standards applicable to large infrastructure and nuclear projects, with the ability to ensure integration into engineering and construction activities.
- Familiarity with construction work processes, procedures, and project execution frameworks, including interface management, change management, and quality control systems.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment by promoting effective communication, coordination, and interface resolution across multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, including Bechtel, NS&E, client representatives, and contractors.
