Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.  This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will support the leadership of a high-performance team to develop and manage complex Environmental, Safety, and Health (EHS) project programs. You will assist functional leads to ensure requirements are properly integrated and be responsible for overall project EHS execution. Your leadership will help achieve EHS performance expectations, compliance, and continuous improvement.  

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Senior Project EHS Manager on managing of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) program on the project, inclusive of technical and administrative aspects; compliance activities; and processes and plans associated with all three ESH disciplines (including medical).
  • Supports Supervising EHS personnel and facilitates their development through assignments, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Assures that ESH requirements are properly interpreted and integrated in planning documents, design criteria, construction and operational plans, schedules, training programs, and subcontract documents.
  • Applies Project’s ESH Management System and standards to achieve, maintain, and continually improve EHS program execution.
  • Assures support within ESH teams and to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Operations, Legal, Contracts, Procurement, Management, and other functions regarding integration of ESH requirements.
  • Manages budgets, schedules, and resources for interpreting and implementing ESH requirements, evaluating risks, and developing suitable plans and methods for a robust ESH program.  
  • Helps write and oversees implementation of Environmental Management Plans, Safety and Health Management Plans, and other ESH plans in compliance with project’s ESH Management System, standards, and contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads the Project EHS Incident Investigation Program
  • Represent the EHS team in the Risk Management Process
  • Establishes ESH emergency preparedness planning and confirms investigation and resolution of ESH incidents.
  • Conducts assessments and inspections, and participates in audits, to confirm ESH compliance with contractual commitments, laws and regulations, environmental permit requirements, and project standards.
  • Confirms that, specialized studies, assessments, reports, and regulatory submittals are completed as required.  
  • Manages the projects EHS Planning for 90, 60, 30, days look ahead and path of risk.
  • Support EHS Oversight of Subcontractors and Direct Hire
  • Oversee EHS supply chain activities, ensuring effective subcontractor prequalification, bid review, flow-down of safety requirements, and participation in project kick-off meetings.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s or Master's degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental, safety, health or science-related discipline and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience

  • Recognised as an advanced contributor with specialized expertise in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) operations.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert within the discipline, providing authoritative guidance and strategic insight.
  • Demonstrates broad and deep experience, applying professional concepts and organizational objectives to creatively and effectively resolve complex issues.
  • Skilled in analysing multifaceted situations and data, exercising sound judgment to evaluate variable factors and determine optimal solutions.
  • Utilizes advanced decision-making abilities in selecting appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Builds and maintains strong networks across disciplines and departments, collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Operates independently with extensive latitude for judgment and minimal supervision.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to less-experienced professionals, fostering team development and continuous improvement.
  • Capable of leading cross-functional teams or managing complex projects to drive operational excellence and compliance
