Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
The Construction Automation Specialist provides hands-on support for construction automation applications, reporting systems, data interfaces, dashboards, and field execution tools. Working under the direction of the Construction Automation Lead, this position helps implement configurations, troubleshoot system issues, prepare documentation, and assist with user support and training. The role contributes to the overall digital delivery strategy and ensures construction teams can effectively use automation tools to drive safe and efficient execution.
Major Responsibilities:
System Support & Configuration
• Assist in implementing construction automation tools per the Project Automation Plan and BSAP standards.
• Configure, test, and support Bechtel proprietary applications utilized in project digital delivery.
• Perform basic SQL queries, data validation, and troubleshooting of database issues under guidance from senior staff.
• Help prepare and maintain SQA documentation, test plans, migration notes, and version-release forms.
• Support development of Power BI and SSRS reports and assist in the creation of dashboards and templates for field reporting.
Field Execution Support
• Serve as initial point-of-contact for construction personnel requiring automation tool assistance.
• Support field data entry, data quality checks, and interface troubleshooting.
• Help track contractor/supplier compliance with digital delivery requirements.
• Assist in publishing daily/weekly dashboards, progress curves, KPI charts, and discipline-level metrics.
• Support setup, configuration, and maintenance of AWP data within Bechtel’s construction tools and field systems.
Other Major Responsibilities:
Training & User Engagement
• Assist in developing user guides, job aids, and quick-reference materials.
• Help deliver training and onboarding sessions for new users.
• Collect user feedback and communicate enhancement requests to the Construction Automation Lead.
Integration & Turnover Support
• Support coordination of data flow between construction, commissioning, and turnover systems.
• Participate in walkthroughs and inspections related to digital turnover packages.
• Assist with ensuring data completeness and accuracy for transfer to Commissioning & Startup tools.
Project Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain automation-related information in plans, procedures, and spreadsheets.
• Provide weekly status inputs and updates for automation activities.
• Support record keeping, configuration logs, and documentation reviews.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field; equivalent relevant experience considered.
- 2–5 years of experience in construction automation, engineering systems support, digital tools, or EPC project technology (more experience acceptable depending on grade level).
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Data & Reporting
• Basic SQL experience for querying and validating data.
• Exposure to Power BI, SSRS, or similar reporting tools.
• Ability to support and troubleshoot data extract issues with senior guidance.
General Technical Skills
• Understanding of construction workflows and how digital tools support field execution.
• Ability to read and interpret structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
• Knowledge of change management and configuration control processes (preferred).
• Familiarity with Bechtel NWPPs and BSAP standards (preferred).
Additional Requirements
• Must be physically able to walk and climb around construction sites, including ladders and uneven surfaces, while wearing PPE.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced field environment.
• Strong communication skills and customer-service mindset.
• Self-starter able to work under moderate supervision and escalate issues when appropriate.
