Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
The Training Lead develops and helps execute the training and awareness component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (EHS) program. Key activities involve development of training plans and courses, preparation of training materials, recordkeeping, teaching and coaching, and execution of awareness campaigns to enhance EHS performance and leadership. The position involves practical application of teaching methods to promote knowledge and participation within a diverse workforce. The position reports to an EHS Manager.
Major Responsibilities:
- Manages and develops EHS learning, training, and awareness programs and initiatives as a member of an EHS team, with the objective to enhance understanding and implementation of the EHS program.
- Develops and coordinates EHS standard and specialized courses that relate to Bechtel's EHS requirements and subjects (core processes) and EHS Management System.
- Works with subject matter experts to develop course materials and awareness strategies.
- Has a train-the-trainer role, providing guidance to other training personnel, and assuring that training quality and consistency expectations are met.
- Prepares and maintains an overarching EHS learning and development plan, and coordinates it with Human Resources regarding employee training requirements.
- Gives and helps prepare presentations and facilitates training programs.
- Identifies and promotes innovative teaching and learning techniques.
- Promotes a composite strategy of instructor-led and online courses, hands-on training (e.g., hazard school), posters, bulletin boards, supervisor meetings, and other methods to establish knowledge and awareness of all three EHS disciplines.
- Manages Bechtel's Craft-Based Leadership (CBL) program, and provides training on its implementation, per Bechtel's core process on CBL.
- Promotes and applies the EHS Management System to achieve continual improvement.
- Prepares learning, training, and marketing materials (e.g., brochures, media, and print materials).
- May use third-party vendors to provide course materials and translation services, as required and approved.
- Uses best practices and incident data to help improve the content of training courses and materials.
- Establishes and maintains an EHS recognition program for employees.
- Uses the EHS website and other technology as part of a learning and awareness strategy.
- Develops, promotes, and implements EHS initiatives and awareness campaigns.
- Responds to specialized training requests and aids employee development needs.
- Supports execution of an EHS program by assisting other team members, inclusive of all EHS disciplines.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university or college; or a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis on science from an accredited university or college.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Eight to 10 years of relevant teaching experience.
- Specialized training skills and knowledge applicable to EHS disciplines.
- Prior work experience involving development and implementation of training programs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and diverse training methods.
- Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
- Adaptable to work in a training facility and outdoors in a field environment.
- Ability to support various work shifts, as needed.
- Fluent in English
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated interest, training, and experience in applied sciences and workplace training.
- Previous experience with EHS technical and administrative subjects.
- Broad technical knowledge, science skills, and technical writing and teaching abilities.
