Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
A EHS Night Shift Lead helps develop and execute the safety component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (EHS) program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility. The position reports to a Field EHS Manager or safety professional.
Major Responsibilities:
- Supervises a Night Shift project-level safety program, work area, or a component of it, inclusive of technical and administrative aspects and compliance activities.
- Assures that safety and health requirements are integrated in planning documents, design criteria, construction and operational plans, schedules, and subcontract documents.
- Prepares technical and regulatory reports, and research issues to support EHS program execution.
- Provides technical guidance within EHS teams and to other project groups, so that safety and health requirements are integrated within project planning, design, construction planning, procurement, subcontracts, commissioning, and other project functions.
- Works with other project-level functional leads (e.g., engineering, construction, commissioning and startup, subcontracts, procurement, project controls, document controls) to assist them in addressing safety requirements in their work products and activities.
- Coordinates with a Project EHS Manager, regarding significant issues.
- Prepares or participates in preparation of the Project Safety and Health Management Plan, safety and health specific plans, project-specific control plans, and safety and health awareness and training programs in compliance with Bechtel standards, EHS Management System, and contract and regulatory requirements.
- Emphasizes and uses risk assessment and Bechtel's EHS Management System to help achieve continual improvement.
- Participates in EHS emergency response planning and confirms investigation and resolution of safety incidents.
- Evaluates incidents and EHS performance trends.
- Builds working relationships with stakeholders and addresses their issues.
- Supervises project-assigned safety personnel.
- Participates in meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety/health requirements.
- Provides technical support and assistance to construction supervision and subcontractors in planning and executing field activities.
- Conducts assessments and inspections of project activities to monitor EHS compliance with contractual commitments, laws and regulations, and Bechtel requirements.
- Analyses data, tracks EHS performance and trends, and prepares technical reports.
- Facilitates support for EHS team members, inclusive of all EHS disciplines.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A Master of Science degree (or equivalent) in occupational safety, health or science-related discipline from an accredited university or college and 6 or more years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in occupational safety, health, or a science-related discipline from an accredited university or college and 8 or more years of relevant experience; or an Associate's degree (or equivalent) in occupational safety, health, or science-related field and 10 or more years of relevant experience; or 12 or more years of relevant safety or health experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
- Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.
- Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
- Ability to support multiple work shifts, as needed, and a wide range of tasks.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Fluent in English
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated interest, training, and experience in applied sciences.
- Knowledge and experience implementing Polish Labor Laws
- Knowledge and experience overseeing subcontractors and direct hire professionals.
- Knowledge and experience with ISO 45001 Management System standards.
- Specialised technical skills and knowledge related to an applicable safety or health discipline.
- Broad technical knowledge, science skills, and technical writing abilities.
