SUMMARY

The Project Risk Specialist is the central point of focus for risk identification, administration and management of the risk program during the execution phase of the project.  The Project Risk Specialist has professional experience or recognized qualifications in risk management with knowledge of various risk analysis tools.  The candidate will ideally have broad experience in construction or mining with an understanding of enterprise, execution and operational risk.

 

The role plays an important part in the project meeting its overall project objectives (including budget and schedule targets).  The role reports to the Project Controls Manager.

 

The Project Risk Specialist is a well-organized 'people' person with strong verbal and written communication skills.  They will be able to drive organizational change, create a focus for the team on risk, be the risk expert, quickly grasp underlying structures of the Project (and wider stakeholder groups) and gain cooperation all with a minimum of fuss.

 

The Project Risk Specialist will be located at project home office in Santiago initially and move to the project site at the beginning of next year.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1.      Deliver to the Project Execution Plan.

2.      Liaise with Bechtel and customer representatives in all aspects of the project risk management process.

3.      Define and implement the project risk management program (and associated project risk framework)

4.      Implement the project risk management program

5.      Facilitate risk assessment workshops and support the corresponding risk analysis and evaluation activities.

6.      Develop and maintain the currency of risk information recorded within the project risk register.

7.      Ensure the review of risk activities is performed in accordance with project requirements.

8.      Coordinate the timely delivery of risk profiles or other status reports to project management.

9.      Mentor project leadership in risk awareness and embed risk-based decision-making.

10.   Maintain relationships with key stakeholders and risk management governance group of the Project.

11.   Provide training on the risk management process and risk assessment techniques to project staff.

12.   Act as the custodian for the project risk management processes on the Project.

13.   Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision to meet multiple deadlines simultaneously under pressure.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE

  • Previous experience of risk quantification (impact/probability)
  • Previous experience of managing risk management systems
  • Previous experience of applying and developing risk management procedures
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, assessing alternatives and determining solutions
  • Must have work experience as Risk Analyst on large scale projects / operations / initiatives
  • Proficiency with at least 5 years’ experience, including development and facilitation of workshops.
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills
  • Knowledge of Bechtel and industry an advantage.
  • Competent working knowledge of computer skills, especially the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge and use of risk management software.
  • Familiarity with risk management philosophy and multiple risk methodologies.
  • English is required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic qualification (post-secondary diploma, university degree or equivalent) in project management, risk management, information systems, or a related field and 5 years of relevant risk management experience
