Position Summary

Bechtel is seeking a Concentrator Senior Safety Lead for the Mining & Metals team, based in Chile. The position will be responsible for supporting the implementation of ESH management programs, systems and processes; provides the technical oversight of the environment, safety and health activities; and provides the overall support for a specific area to be successful in controlling the risk of harm to people, property and the environment.



The Concentrator Senior Safety Lead is principally responsible for:

  • Actively supports area leaders in the implementation of the ESH program.

  • Monitors the implementation of the ESH program and reports successes and areas of improvement.

  • Liaises and openly communicates with area leaders and the GBU ESH Manager on area status and needs.

  • Identifies best practices for implementation.

  • Maintains a working relationship with client representatives, leaders and other ESH team members.

  • Participates in area leader meetings to identify and report on ESH requirements.

  • Acts as the lead investigator for any significant incident in their area.

  • Supervises and maintains a team that provides in-field ESH support to all construction areas.

  • Identifies activities that directly reduce risk.

  • Acts as the lead investigator for any significant incident in the field.

  • Supervises and maintains a team that provides in-field environmental support.

  • Acts as the Project ESH Manager during periods of absence.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

The Concentrator Senior Safety Lead shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:

  • Associate bachelor’s degree or related technical training.

Additional Qualifications

  • Leadership skills to enable a team to be successful - coach, mentor, participate, direct.

  • Professional skill set to deliver quality outputs of an ESH program.

  • High level of written and verbal communication.

  • Attributes that openly display ESH as a personal value.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, targets and objectives.

  • Knowledge of the construction process of a copper concentrator and its main risks.

  • Responsible for ESH deliverables of the work area, as well as assigning tasks to people under supervision.

  • Experience in supervising teams and ensuring that their deliverables maintain the expected quality.

  • Ability to establish interpersonal relationships with colleagues from multiple disciplines with whom he/she must establish agreements and maintain good communication (Construction, Contracts, Project Controls).

  • Experience in supervising EPCM contractors and maintaining a good relationship with their Environment, Safety and Health peers to achieve the objectives set.
