Role Overview


As the Senior Cost Engineer for major EPC projects, reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the incumbent will work in the London office and be responsible for developing the control budgets / establishing the cost baselines for E, P & C activities based on the award value / estimates, maintenance of budgets and reporting of actuals against established budgets. 

Main Responsibilities


•    The Senior Cost Engineer will be expected to interpret contract requirements and implement, as applicable, Bechtel standard cost engineering work processes and procedures. 
•    In addition, there will be a requirement to establish reporting tools, chair cost review meetings, identify and analyse deviations from the agreed baseline and determine resultant impacts of the changes as well as recommend workarounds to mitigate the same on a proactive basis. 
•    The candidate is expected to supervise and provide guidance to project Cost Engineering personnel & subcontractors in the requirements of cost monitoring / reporting and invoicing, cash flow forecasting and management reporting. 
•    As the job progresses, the incumbent will be required to lead on forecast activities, play a major role in trend management and establishment of change order requests. 
•    Rigorous implementation of work processes and procedures, early identification of deviations from budget, through scope change, trending and analysis will be critical to success in this position. 
•    The candidate may be required to participate in Value Engineering exercises. 



•    Extensive working knowledge of the basic engineering, procurement and construction, (EPC) work processes within the Oil, Gas and Chemical business line is essential.
•    Identifying, analysing and solving problems. 
•    Working knowledge of Earned Revenue Determination data. 
•    Possess relevant experience including some supervisory experience.
•    Previous International Oil, Gas & Chemical or Heavy Industrial / Infrastructure experience desirable.



•    Capable of leading and guiding a cost control team, and interfacing with both internal management and customer representatives.
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•    The candidate will be a self starter with a high level of energy and motivation.
•    Proficient in the use of cost control techniques, databases, spreadsheets, word processing and power point software.
•    Aptitude to become familiar with in-house cost control / reporting tools. 
•    Familiarity with Financial / Profitability analysis.
