Position Summary

This role is responsible for a range of tasks including planning, coordinating and preparing equipment, material requisitions and bid evaluations for rotating/packaged equipment. The role is also responsible for communicating any issues with the supervisor and technical lead to seek solutions. Conducts reviews of vendor drawings, calculations and other documentation. Works on conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals. Mentor junior mechanical engineers handling compressors, pumps, turbines and packaged equipment. Bechtel is seeking someone who has BSME or an equivalent degree as well as around 5 years of experience with knowledge of rotating equipment. 


Typical responsibilities 

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work for a global business unit usually in one discipline in a project or staff group.  Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Performs work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, material requisition, bid evaluations and award recommendations for rotating/packaged equipment.
  • Coordinates Engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  • Assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to project management.
  • Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
  • Reviews/analyses bids and makes technical recommendations.
  • Prepares cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers.
  • Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • identify specific equipment services they have been responsible for, such as BOG Compressors, Refrigeration Compressors, Wet Gas Compressors, Cryogenic Pumps, Packaged Equipment (raw water treatment, wastewater treatment, sludge handling, chemical injection, N2 generation), etc.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Applicant must have BEng or equivalent degree.
  • Extensive experience with Rotating/Packaged Equipment experience in extensive experience in Energy, Petrochemical and / or Oil and Gas industry. 
  • In depth knowledge of rotating/packaged equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines, water treatment) and electric motors.
  • Strong background with API 610 Centrifugal pumps and API 617 Centrifugal Compressors and gas seal systems.
  • Specific experience in Rotating / Packaged Equipment design / installation / troubleshooting in one or more of the following market segments:  eFuels, Waste-to-Energy, Renewable Energy, Natural gas processing including liquefaction and regasification, Coal, gas or biomass to chemicals, Refining/Coker, Petrochemical (Cracker, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, PVC, VCM, PTA, PET), Gas Processing Carbon capture and sequestration, Solar and/or combined cycle power plants, Hydrogen value chain including reforming, liquefaction, transportation and fueling stations, Offshore and onshore pipelines, Desalination, raw water, demineralized water and waste water treatment etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of ASME codes and API standards. Thorough understanding of Engineering planning and control methods.
  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline.
  • Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.
  • Thorough understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including construction practices and the economics involved.
  • Able to troubleshoot issues in a field or job site setting confidently, and to provide instruction on how to resolve issues identified.
  • Actively participate and contribute to code/standards committees (ASME, API, etc.).
  • Chartered Engineer status preferred
  • Experience with Expander-Compressors / Expander-Generators, Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, and Reciprocating Compressors is beneficial.
  • Experience with field installation / commissioning activities for rotating/packaged equipment is preferred.
