We are currently recruiting for long term career professionals, with an initial assignment within our Functional Management Team supporting our Security and Environment projects and business development efforts across the UK.

ROLE SUMMARY:

We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to plan and coordinate Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Safety, and Nuclear Licensing work as it pertains to the Security and Environment Sector -. Has full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating work scope within the business. Is responsible for acting independently on engineering matters.

 

Has full technical responsibility for planning, interpreting, organising, executing, and coordinating engineering assignments and activities within the business. Receives supervision from Manager of Engineering or Security and Environment Sector Manager. Exercises functional direction over assigned Engineers, Engineering Supervisors and Project Engineers (when applicable). Participates in contacts with clients on matters relating to project delivery and future prospects. Ensures projects are executed in accordance with the Bechtel Enterprise Quality Management System, Engineering Department Procedures, Technical Risk Assessments, Safety Practices, and statutory and customer-specific design requirements

 

Works with Business Development on any proposals to develop the Engineering input and supporting project execution plans and professional services estimates.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Reviews Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Safety, and Nuclear Licensing deliverables such as safety basis documentation.
  2. Directs and provides technical and administrative guidance to assigned Project and/or discipline Engineers in the management of engineering projects.
  3. Reviews staffing plans on all assignments.
  4. Conducts annual performance reviews in accordance with approved procedures and holds career development discussions.
  5. Participates in project planning and provides technical guidance in the engineering and construction review of proposals.
  6. Inputs to, owns and reviews project schedules and approves staffing estimates for engineering personnel for new proposals and jobs as assigned.
  7. Keeps informed on the status of project engineering activities with respect to schedule, budget, work quality and client satisfaction, and contributes leadership, experience, and expertise in the solution of difficult problems.
  8. Monitors the use of available engineering computer programs, technical advances and engineering management control techniques on the various projects.
  9. Reviews and recommends engineering plans and programs for assigned projects.

 

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

  • Extensive technical knowledge of Nuclear Safety Engineering systems, calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials and applications of computers 2-D and 3-D computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) to engineering problems.
  • Proficient knowledge of global business unit activities and operations including business development, legal, procurement, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance.
  • Extensive experience of UK nuclear regulations including safety and security principles and liaising with ONR.
  • Broad knowledge of administrative practices.
  • Proficient in negotiation for dealing with client representatives.

 

SKILLS AND Qualifications:

Strong experience working as an Engineering Manager and a proven track record in delivering multidiscipline projects. In addition:

  • Degree in Engineering, be chartered and belong to a recognised institution with a minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in Engineering/Project Management for nuclear power, security, or environment projects.
  • Experience in collaboratively working within an integrated delivery team and managing stakeholders to ensure high quality submissions
  • Experience of recognised project management methodology
  • Ability to confidently present to senior management, clients, and stakeholders
  • Ability to negotiate suitable outcomes that mitigate project risk
  • Proficient knowledge of Project engineering processes and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • Demonstrated skill in supervision.
  • Past experience with managing complex projects
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning, and organisational skills are essential.
  • Thorough knowledge of business practices, project forecasting and project control tools for monitoring and tracking performance is required.
  • Experience in resolving complex technical problems and the ability to articulate explanations, is essential
  • Must be able to work in the United Kingdom without sponsorship
  • Shall be capable of achieving UK Security Clearance Requirements
