Position Summary

 

The Materials Engineering Technology (MET) team is increasing capabilities to support the Energy & Metals & Mining business units of Bechtel Global for projects executed in Houston, Texas, London UK and Santiago, Chile.

 

There is a vacancy for a graduate engineer with a demonstrable interest and knowledge in acoustic engineering. The successful applicant will:

 

  • Plan and conduct independent work, using sound judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Devise practical approaches to solving noise issues
  • Coordinate technical issues with other departments on projects including constructability requirements and reviews
  • Travel to support activities at construction sites, supplier's works or in other engineering offices
  • Takes the initiative to coordinate the detailed design development of a system with other engineering disciplines while managing workload and meeting schedule due dates

 

Typical Responsibilities

 

The Acoustic Engineer will report to the Materials Engineering Technology Chief Engineer.

 

Duties will include the following:

 

  • Develop noise models and technical specifications for noise control
  • Support to engineering disciplines in preparation of data sheets and requisition packages
  • Support project environmental permitting activities
  • Review of noise content in technical bids
  • Review acoustic insulation requirements
  • Provide post award technical support to requisitioning engineers
  • Support the project through construction and commissioning phases
  • Develop expertise in the use of commercial noise modelling software (e.g. CadnaA).
  • Become familiar with equipment associated with petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants, and power plants.

 

Specific capabilities for the role include:

 

  • An appreciation and understanding of engineering principles
  • Some knowledge of commercial noise modeling software (e.g. CadnaA).
  • Some knowledge of international codes
  • Ability to coordinate work with other engineering disciplines

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Applicants should have, or be on track for, a 2:1 or higher Bachelors or Masters degree in Acoustical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college or university within the last 2 years

 

  • An ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international projects

 

  • Work experience relevant to the area you are applying to, and extra-curricular activities will help your application
