Position Summary
The Sustainability Apprentice will work as part of a small team role in support of Bechtel UK and Ireland activities and projects. This role will support Bechtel Sustainability Managers and project teams to improve, manage and track and report sustainability performance. Project examples include airport expansions or new constructions, new rail lines and motorways and renewable energy projects. This role will focus on but is not limited to socio-economic sustainability.
This role will include doing a Sustainability Apprenticeship Programme administered by an agreed, recognised Training Provider.
Typical Responsibilities
Immediate tasks will be focused on social and economic areas of sustainability, but there will also be opportunities to support wider sustainability including carbon, energy and sustainability rating systems. Responsibilities include:
- Helping the Sustainability Manager with identifying and implementing best practices in sustainability
- Helping the Sustainability Manager with sustainability monitoring and evaluation, data collection, analysis and reporting
- Helping the wider team to support projects and tenders with advice on stakeholder & community engagement, social value creation and local economic opportunity promotion
- Working with working with other business functions (e.g. Construction, Procurement) on integrating sustainability in their activities and in collecting data and reporting
- Researching and developing understanding Social Value goals and public procurement requirements as they pertain to Bechtel prospects and projects.
- Assisting in developing appropriate guidance, procedures and training materials as relevant
- Helping the Sustainability Manager with internal communications, communications materials, case studies and best practice exemplars on sustainability
- General administrative support and other reasonable tasks as required
Qualifications and Skills
- An Average of 6 or above in minimum of 5 GCSE subjects
- Grade C or above in 3 “A” levels (or equivalent) in relevant subjects
- Desirable - a knowledge and/or interest in project design and construction
- Desirable – a keen interest in understanding the impacts of building major infrastructure on communities and the environment and influencing for more positive impact.
- A good demonstration of IT skills and a keenness to learn and work with Microsoft and other data reporting tools and presentation tools/software.
