Project Overview:

Mining and Metals: 

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.  

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and plan specifications for project geotechnical design. You will oversee the field and laboratory, conduct studies, and interpret regulations. You will participate in new business efforts and proposal preparation including identifying client needs and developing cost estimates. Your expertise will help ensure geotechnical project aspects meet project requirements. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard geotechnical engineering methods preparing specifications for subsurface investigations for new and existing facilities​ 
  • Providing oversight of geotechnical analyses such as stability of soil and rock slopes, rock excavation and slope protection, bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations, lateral earth pressures, and axial and lateral pile capacities​ 
  • Coordinating civil or structural engineering designs with geotechnical assessments​ 
  • Conducting review of geotechnical interpretative reports and works with geotechnical consultants to produce high quality co-coordinated submissions​ 
  • Assisting with and advising on earthwork operations, inspection of earthworks and monitoring of ground improvement during the construction phase of projects​ 
  • Overseeing outside geotechnical consultants hired by Bechtel or the client to perform these tasks​ 
  • Providing input to reports and may provide technical assistance to other geotechnical personnel​ 
  • Providing assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project requirements related to addressing issues as they arise during project execution 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Domain of calculation of support capacity for superficial and deep foundations by various methods, specifically those accepted in the AASHTO and FHWA regulations.
  • Knowledge in advanced means slope stability software, ideally in GeoSlope, analysis in elastic means, ideally in 2D and 3D Plaxis. 
  • Advanced management of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of AI tools associated with the usual Microsoft softwares.
  • Ability to prepare geotechnical documents of the type: Design Criteria, Specifications, Calculation Memories, Field Visit Reports, etc.
  • Proficiency in the English language is a desirable condition.
  • Ability to organize, dedication and skill in working under pressure, and meeting deadlines even if they are tight.
  • Availability to make periodic field visits. Health compatible with working at geographical height.
  • Ability to organize and conduct meetings of his specialty, and with counterparts of other specialties as well as the client and subcontractors.
