Position Overview

Bechtel Mining & Metals are seeking a Process Engineer to work on the Mountain Pass (MP) heavy rare earths project. Mountain Pass is an existing rare earths producer that is in eastern California (nearby to Las Vegas). MP has a strong and proud history of development of rare earth extraction processes. The project is to design and construct new finishing circuits to produce heavy rare earth oxides. These critical minerals are needed for electrification as the world reduces carbon emissions, as well as in defence, nuclear and electronics industries. As process engineer, you would be working with the Lead Process Engineer, project team and client to complete the detail design, construction, and commissioning of the new finishing circuits. In this role, you would preferably locate in Las Vegas to work at the Mountain Pass site. Alternatively, you could work remotely if you can regularly travel to the MP site on business trips.  Work schedule is Monday to Friday. The role would initially be 6 months of detailed engineering, with opportunity to then move into further roles in construction/commissioning or other Bechtel projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop and check the process deliverables that are typical of detailed engineering (such as design criteria, mass & energy balances, process flow diagrams, equipment sizing calculations, P&IDs, control philosophy).
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, procurement, construction, vendors, consultants, subject matter experts and client teams to deliver the project successfully.
• Contribute to the review and optimizations of project design, cost, safety, constructability, and schedule.

Quaification and Skills

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, mineral processing, or chemical engineering.
• At least 7 – 12 years of experience in process engineering.
• At least 4 years’ experience as an engineer in detailed design in the minerals industry, including experience in developing the typical detailed engineering deliverables.  
• Experience in hydrometallurgy and rare earths processing will be highly regarded.
• Well-developed skills in teamwork, communication, problem solving and client engagement.

•  Right to Work in USA without employer sponsorship is required for this role.
