Project Overview:
Louisiana LNG is located approximately 11 miles southwest of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The project includes a mid-scale, mixed-refrigerant Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on the west side of the Calcasieu River. There are five identical process plants. Each process plant consists of one gas pre-treatment unit, one condensate stabilization unit, and four Chart heavy hydrocarbon (HHC) removal and liquefaction groups. The facility will include associated utilities, refrigerant storage, three 235,000m3 full-containment LNG storage tanks, and three marine berths.
Job Summary:
The Field Welding Engineer is responsible for supporting the Tanks Lead Field Welding engineer in implementing the Tanks welding program.#LI-BH1
Major Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintains Tanks Field Welding program
- Provide technical assistance to field superintendents and crafts.
- Ensure that all supervision and craft personnel involved in welding operations are educated and aware of applicable code and project requirements
- Provide leadership, direction, supervision and support to assigned field welding engineers in Train 1 area.
- Provide specialized welding engineering support to ensure construction meets all code and Bechtel procedures.
- Provide technical expertise for ASME, API, and AWS or other code designed and fabricated items.
- Help manage pre- and post-weld heat treatment program whether self- performed by Bechtel or subcontracted
- Establish and manage rod room and rod room attendant to ensure all weld filler materials are controlled and meet Bechtel and Code requirements
- Help manage the NDE subcontract, including scheduling and coordination between construction and subcontractor
- Set up, manage and monitor welding test lab to insure high quality welders are being tested and hired
- Work with craft supervision to maintain welding documentation and ensure the credibility/accountability of the Welding Program
- Manage, issue, and maintain welder qualifications and welder stamps
- Perform field inspections of welding work to ensure workmanship and materials are in conformance with project requirements. Document welding and inspections on an ongoing basis.
- Advise on rectification of quality behaviors and defects prior to final inspection
- Verification of materials, workmanship and specification/code requirements
- Implementation of project quality control program for welding.
- Responsible for the requisitioning and set up of the welding consumables program
- Assist field procurement in inspection and receipt of welding materials.
- Implement weld inspection tracking system using TEAMWorks/WITS applications
Education & Experience Requirements :
Requires BS/BA with 9+ years of experience or 15+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of tank design programs and CAD tools used in the execution of storage tanks engineering.
- Thorough understanding of storage tank construction including the use and limitations of construction equipment and sequencing of work. Knowledge of Welding processes and practices used in the construction of storage tanks.
- Have experience in Quality assurance requirements relating to the fabrication and construction of storage tanks.
- Superior welding skills with multiple processes including GTAW, SMAW, FCAW and SAW Hands on experience with mobile automatic welding equipment, set-up, trouble-shooting & coaching
- Knowledge of construction, tools, equipment, supplies, and personnel
- Demonstrated understanding of Tank construction procedures, processes and methods Prior work experience with industry known Tank and Vessel field erectors considered an asset
- Good communication, customer relations and training /coaching abilities Open-minded, team player, good listener and leadership qualities
- In depth knowledge and practical experience with various NDE examination methods Has conducted, assisted or lead welding training or upgrading schools.
Additional Information: Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
