Position Summary

As a Piping/Layout Designer, you will support design development of facility layouts, piping, & equipment 3D models for various projects as part of the NS&E execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government work throughout various sectors including DOE and DOD, as well as commercial nuclear projects and business development projects. 

 

This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with periodic business travel, as required.  

  

Job Responsibilities (include but not limited to): 

  • 3D modeling of piping and equipment in a 3D model environment.
  • Preparation of drawings/documents for General Arrangements and piping isometrics drawings.
  • Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e. input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines.
  • Assist with plans and schedules and prepare/maintain design procedures and standards to provide quality design documents.
  • Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction, and suppliers during the preparation of piping designs for the purpose of model/space control, etc.
  • Perform coordination review of specifications and other documents prepared by others.
  • Candidate should possess an advanced knowledge of piping codes such as ASME B31.3 or B31.1.

 

Qualifications and Skills 

Basic Qualifications

  • Level 1:  AA/AS/Cert with 8 years of related design experience; or in lieu of degree, 12 years related design experience. 
  • Level 2:  AA/AS/Cert with 11 years of related design experience; or in lieu of degree, 15 years related design experience. 
  • Hands-on experience using a 3D piping design platform. 
  • Hands-on experience using a 3D isometric extraction program. 
  • Extensive knowledge & application of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 codes. 
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. 
  • Must be authorized to live and work in the U.S. without sponsorship.  

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience using SmartPlant S3D piping design platform and isometric extraction.
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience. 
  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
