Job Summary:

This position is for a Senior Mechanical Handling Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E engineering execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE. The successful candidate must have strong organization and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, can-do attitude, and the design to innovate designs.

 

This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with period business travel, as required.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications​ 
  • Develop and revise Mechanical Handling design documents and Procurement Documents
  • Participates in the design, development and modification of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​ 
  • Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines​ 
  • Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups​ 
  • Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals 
  • Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards​ 
  • Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 1: Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) from an ABET accredited university/college and a minimum of 5-8 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Level 2: Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) from an ABET accredited university/college and a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Must be a U.S citizen.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Related experience includes but is not limited to MHD, MFD, MSD, Material Requisitions, Specification, calculations, and datasheets for Mechanical equipment on powerplants, refineries, or chemical/nuclear process facilities.
  • Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize Microsoft office suite of products.
  • Familiar with regulations and industry codes and standards affecting complex engineering work within discipline.
  • Understands technical issues and costs related to selection of typical design features within discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Knows how to develop all standard deliverables within discipline.
  • Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
  • Familiar with effort required to prepare standard discipline deliverables and knows how to prepare standard engineering budgets and schedules within discipline.
