Job Summary:
This position is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E engineering execution center team. The projects assigned involve government work through various sectors, including DOD and DOE. In this role, you will be involved in design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.
This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with periodic business travel, as required.
Major Responsibilities:
- Originate and/or revise Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), calculations, data sheets, material requisitions, and specifications.
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria for preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications.
- Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
- Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups.
- When delegated, provides guidance to other mechanical engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects.
- Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues.
- Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
- Mentors and assists more junior mechanical team members.
- Completes mechanical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
- Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
- Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products.
- Support development of project cost and schedule estimates.
Basic Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical (or related) Engineering from an ABET accredited university/college and a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Related experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development, fluid system design, hydraulic, heat transfer, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification and design. development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
- Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering work processes, procedures, and specifications.
- Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
- (Preferred) - Prior experience working in an execution center environment and demonstrated flexibility in work assignments.
- (Preferred) - MS degree in Mechanical (or related) Engineering from an accredited university or college.
- (Preferred) – Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
- (Preferred) - Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
- (Preferred) - Registered Professional Engineer in the USA (Mechanical or related).
- (Preferred) - Possesses an active security clearance or have the ability to obtain one upon hire.
