Office Overview:
The Knoxville Engineering Office is the engineering hub for the Nuclear, Security, & Environmental business, supporting multiple projects. Projects involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE.
Job Summary:
This senior-level position will allow you to perform assignments that utilize your professional working knowledge and abilities through the application of standard design techniques, applicable codes and standards, procedures, and criteria. You may develop standard instrumentation & control systems deliverables including instrument location drawings, system block diagrams, instrument rack layouts, 3d modeling, and more. You will exercise judgement in performing your assigned duties using industry experience and methods prescribed by your supervisor. The designer will work with other control systems designers and engineers, other disciplines/functions, and/or the client. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude, and a desire to innovate design. As a senior designer, you will also be asked to coach and mentor younger designers and engineers.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership
This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with periodic business travel, as required. #LI-AA7
Major Responsibilities:
Typical Activities of the Control Systems Team
- Generates 2D drawings or 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models of high complexity with minimal guidance from others
- Perform Clash Checks in 3D Model and synchronize with other disciplines and other stake holder(s) to develop a clash free system design.
- Preparation of Instrument Wiring Drawing and Loop Drawings.
- Develop Instrument Hook Up Drawings.
- Contributes to maintaining the project's instrument database using automated tools and has knowledge of the applicability of information to be populated in the instrument database.
- Works with engineers and designers in other disciplines to coordinate overall design and technical requirements.
- Participates in constructability reviews.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Requires relevant bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Experience with generating 2-D drawings and 3D Modeling.
