Position Summary

As Senior Electrical Designer you will be responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and updating using Setroute, conduit, and raceway design. Responsible to produce lower and higher tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope, modelling, including cable pull calculations, design of lighting using AGi32, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations and lightning protection systems. Develops specifications for equipment and material where deviation from standard documentation is required.

 

This role will be based in Knoxville, TN, with periodic business travel required.

 

Responsibilities

  • Electrical Physical Design (and circuit and raceway).
  • Responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and updating, conduit, and aboveground raceway design. 
  • Works under the direction of Engineering Group Supervisor. 
  • Responsible to produce drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of lighting, communications, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations, and lightning protection systems.
  • Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry proven concepts and procedures. 
  • Must have proven 2D and 3D CADD skills. 
  • Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections to the database.
  • Responsibilities also include ensuring that the electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards. May interface with Construction and Subcontractors.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with others and within a team. 
  • Must be able to work well with other disciplines.
  • Must know how to use computer programs such as the Microsoft Windows suite of programs. 
  • Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Level 1: AA/AS degree with 8 years of related design experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and 12 years of related design experience.
  • Level 2: AA/AS degree with 11 years of related electrical design experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and 15 years of related design experience.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • This role requires a facility-specific clearance that requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hands-on Microsoft Office programs and other computer programs.
  • Extensive knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of raceway and electrical equipment layouts.
  • Extensive working knowledge of industry-wide design tools, such as CAD 2D/3D, cable designing, and routing software.
  • Must have proven 2D CADD and 3D skills.
  • Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System and be able to input and complete corrections to the database.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, and work well with others and within a team. Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines.
  • Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • Excellent oral & written communications skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using a 3D electrical model design platform.
  • Hands-on experience with SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections in the database.
  • Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.
  • Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Previous lead experience.
  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
