Office Overview:

The Knoxville Engineering Office is the engineering hub for the Nuclear, Security, & Environmental business, supporting multiple projects. Projects involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE.

 

Job Summary:

This senior-level position will allow you to perform assignments that utilize your professional working knowledge and abilities through the application of standard engineering design techniques, applicable codes and standards, procedures, and criteria. You may develop standard instrumentation & control systems deliverables including instrument datasheets & specifications, control system logic diagrams, support the development of piping and instrumentation drawings, and more. You will exercise judgement in performing your assigned duties using industry experience and methods prescribed by your supervisor. The engineer will work with other control systems engineers, other disciplines/functions, and/or the client. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude, and a desire to innovate design. As a senior engineer, you will also be asked to coach and mentor younger engineers. #LI-AA7

This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with periodic business travel, as required.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

Typical Activities of the Control Systems Team

  • Review project design criteria.
  • Design and review of Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) to add control/functionality for intermediate process control systems.
  • Specification of instrumentation and control valves.
  • Prepare and check instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions.
  • Prepare and check control narratives
  • Prepare and check digital and analog control logic.
  • Prepare and check functional block diagrams.
  • Populate and check instrumentation, valve, and I/O databases.
  • Design and application of tubing and instrument installations.
  • Allocation and layout of facility control system I/O.
  • Coordination of physical locations of instrumentation, control valves, control cabinets, etc.
  • Design and check control cabinet layouts.
  • Review of supplier provided data and documentation.
  • Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
  • Coordination of technical issues with other engineering disciplines (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical) and other functions (e.g., Construction, Start-up).
  • Advise and guide junior engineers.
  • Lead specific design efforts.
  • Some travel to plant and supplier facilities may be required.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • This role requires a facility-specific clearance that requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Requires relevant bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
