Job Summary:
This position is for a Mechanical Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. In this role, you will participate in the design, development, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. You will collaborate and support other engineering disciplines for mechanical matters. Your professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard mechanical engineering techniques and criteria will enable you to make impactful contributions to the team.
In this position, the engineer will support design development of Mechanical systems and equipment (including HVAC and Fire Protection) for project(s) by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, material requisitions, engineering specifications, data sheets, evaluation, and more in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
The engineer will work with other mechanical engineers, other disciplines/functions, and/or the client. This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with periodic business travel, as required.
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.”
Major Responsibilities:
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
- Participates in the design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical components and processes used utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
- Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines
- Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
- Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals
- Executes schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products. Support development of project cost and schedule estimates
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Related experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development, fluid system design, hydraulic, heat transfer, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification and design development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards
- Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs
- Broad knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles
- Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills
- Engineering in Training certification in the US, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check
