Position Summary:

The Mechanical Engineering team in the Knoxville, TN office is seeking a Materials Engineering Technology (MET) engineer.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Establish metallurgical requirements for equipment and piping
  • Develop technical specifications for metallic materials and corrosion control
  • Support to engineering disciplines in preparation of data sheets and requisition packages
  • Review of materials content in technical bids
  • Provide post award technical support to requisitioning engineers
  • Support the project through construction and commissioning phases
  • Perform standard materials engineering activities on projects with minimal technical oversight

 

The candidate will be required to:

  • Plan and conduct independent work, using sound judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Devise practical approaches to solving materials engineering problems.
  • Coordinate technical issues with other departments on projects including constructability requirements and reviews.
  • Travel, as needed, to support activities at construction sites, supplier’s facilities, or in other engineering offices

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level IBS degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field with six (6) years of progressive related experience, or in lieu of degree, twelve (12) years of progressive related experience.
  • Level II: BS degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field with nine (9) years of progressive related experience, or in lieu of degree, fifteen (15) years of progressive related experience.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen. 

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • A working knowledge of the principles and practices of Materials Engineering
  • Ability to coordinate work with other engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of welding processes and weld procedure/weld procedure qualification
  • Knowledge of international materials standards and pressure vessel and piping fabrication codes
  • Some knowledge of material damage mechanisms associated with petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants, and power plants
  • The materials engineer will work should also have some basic knowledge of:
  • Nondestructive examination
  • Paint and coatings
  • Thermal insulation
  • Non-Metallic materials
