Project Overview:
The Lead Electrical Engineer will be part of the Knoxville Engineering Center (KEC) Electrical Engineering Team. KEC is a permanent office that provides engineering support to all of Bechtel's Nuclear, Security, and Environmental (NS&E) global business unit (GBU) projects worldwide.
Job Summary:
As a Lead Electrical Engineer in the Knoxville Electrical Engineering Team, you will be responsible for assisting the Electrical Engineering Group Supervisor (EGS) or Deputy EGS, in leading other Electrical Engineers and Electrical Designers who will prepare designs for electrical systems in support of various projects.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. #LI-SNH
Major Responsibilities:
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
- Participates in the design, development, and modification of components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of a small electrical team, estimates staffing needs, and schedules and assigns work, accordingly.
- Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines.
- Coordinates electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups.
- Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
- Provides technical assistance to other electrical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards.
- Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- US Citizen.
- Experience with project controls including scheduling, estimating engineering efforts, planning, and work packaging.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Knowledge of the application of electrical engineering design principles.
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, systems calculations, equipment sizing, and cable sizing.
- Knowledge of power systems load modeling and analysis.
- Understanding of mechanical and process engineering discipline drawings and system calculations, as related to electrical design requirements.
- Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Previous lead or supervisory experience of small engineering teams.
- Previous Bechtel and/or DOD, DOE, or commercial nuclear power project experience.
- Knowledge of Bechtel corporate guides and standards.
- Experience planning and executing work in an Earned Value Management System environment.
