Job Summary:

As a Deputy Electrical Engineering Group Supervisor for the Knoxville Electrical Engineering Team, you will be responsible for assisting the Electrical Engineering Group Supervisor in leading other Electrical Engineers and Electrical Designers who will prepare designs for Electrical Systems in support of various projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving capabilities, and the desire to innovate designs. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating these assignments. This involves exploration of the subject area, the definition of the scope, and may involve the development of novel concepts, approaches, and solutions. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in system design and can develop design documents, including single line diagrams, schematics, and equipment data sheets that incorporate the applicable design. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in design development. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and can be the “face” of Bechtel, promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors. #LI-SNH

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day electrical engineering activity on small sized projects or a portion of a major project with minimal complexity within a global business unit utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly.
  • Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements.
  • Be accountable for error-free deliverables.
  • Prepares electrical discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations of the electrical engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering.
  • When directed, coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of electrical engineering aspects of the work.
  • Reviews and approves key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders.
  • Ensures that assigned electrical engineering personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.
  • Assists in the preparation and reviews of project procedures and cost estimates for proposals, forecasts, and change orders.
  • Perform other related work as assigned by Electrical Supervisor.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Electrical Engineering and 8-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • US Citizen.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the USA (Electrical Engineering).
  • Experience with project controls including scheduling, estimating engineering efforts, planning, and work packaging.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of the application of electrical engineering design principles.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, systems calculations, equipment sizing, and cable sizing.
  • Strong knowledge of power systems load modeling and analysis.
  • Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
  • Lead or supervisory experience on large projects.
  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel corporate guides and standards.
  • Experience planning and executing work in an Earned Value Management System environment.
  • Experience with Nuclear Power Plant Design.
  • Experience performing calculations with ETAP.
  • Understanding of mechanical and process engineering discipline drawings and system calculations, as related to electrical design requirements.
