Position Summary

Bechtel Nuclear, Security, & Environmental (NS&E), is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. This position is for a Control Systems Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

 

In this position, the engineer will develop standard engineering deliverables including logic & functional diagrams, instrument data sheets, material requisitions, engineering specifications, instrument lists, and more, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. In addition, the engineer will support development of piping & instrumentation drawings, location of controls equipment and instrumentation in the 3D model, and more. The engineer will work with other control systems engineers, other disciplines/functions, and/or the client.

 

This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with periodic business travel, as required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Review project design criteria.
  • Design and review of Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) to add control/functionality for intermediate process control systems.
  • Prepare systems descriptions for the Control Systems discipline systems and review and prepare input to other engineering discipline system descriptions.
  • Prepare design change packages.
  • Prepare setpoint calculations.
  • Specification of instrumentation and control valves.
  • Prepare instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions.
  • Prepare control narratives.
  • Prepare digital and analog control logic.
  • Prepare functional block diagrams.
  • Populate instrumentation, valve, and I/O databases.
  • Design and application of tubing and instrument installations.
  • Allocation and layout of facility control system I/O.
  • Coordination of physical locations of instrumentation, control valves, control cabinets, etc.
  • Design control cabinet layouts.
  • Review of supplier provided data and documentation.
  • Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
  • Coordination of technical issues with other engineering disciplines (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical) and other functions (e.g., Construction, Start-up).
  • Some Travel to plant and supplier facilities may be required.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • This role requires a facility-specific clearance taht requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Level 1: BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field from an accredited university, with a minimum of one (1) year control systems experience, or MS degree in Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, or in lieu of degree, seven (7) years engineering experience related to position.
  • Level 2: BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field from an accredited university, with a minimum of three (3) years control systems experience, or MS degree in Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, or in lieu of degree, nine (9) years engineering experience related to position.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must have excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, ISO-9001, or AS-9100.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards (e.g., ISA, ASME and/or ANSI/IEEE).
  • Willingness to travel on business trips in support of projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT)/Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate.
  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience
