Project Overview:

Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on TerraPower's Natrium team.  Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funds to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor.  TerraPower, a leading advanced generation technology company founded by former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, will be deploying its 345 MWE sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium.  The Natrium Demonstration plant features an advanced, cost-competitive reactor design that is safer, easier and less costly to construct, less expensive to operate, and able to provide energy that is competitive with fossil fuels.  It also features an innovative molten salt storage output, combined, the plant can produce more than 500 MWE.  The Natrium Demonstration plant will be licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Job Summary:

The Camp Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and management of camp logistics, including transportation, accommodation, catering, and general services to support project operations. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant mobilization of employees, materials, and equipment, while maintaining high standards of workforce development, supervision, and professionalism. The Camp Manager coordinates with project teams, contractors, and service providers to deliver exceptional camp services, drive continuous improvement, and uphold company values. Depending on grade level, the Camp Manager may lead complex logistics projects, implement innovative solutions, and mentor subordinate supervisors and staff to ensure operational excellence and a positive camp environment.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Direct all aspects of Workforce Hub (camp) operations, including catering, housekeeping, recreation, maintenance, accommodation, and site services, ensuring seamless delivery and compliance with contractual obligations; includes the coordination of the design, construction and commissioning of the facility with subcontractors.
  • Develop and execute strategies for camp setup, mobilization of workforce, materials, and fleet management. Coordinate transportation schedules, fleet maintenance, and equipment management to optimize efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate accommodation forecasts, identify potential shortfalls well in advance, and implement approved mitigations, including securing external facilities when necessary. Balance supply and demand to prevent schedule impacts.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental standards across all camp operations. Conduct structured inspections, recorded safety walkdowns, and address non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Conduct surveys to assess resident satisfaction, address concerns related to service standards and foster a positive living environment. Chair resident committee meetings and liaise with project security on WFH security matters.
  • Review and confirm operator invoicing for accuracy, maintain records of attendance, training, and performance metrics, and prepare regular and ad-hoc reports for project management.
  • Provide training, guidance, and performance management for camp staff. Mentor and develop subordinate supervisors and relief positions to ensure succession planning and seamless coverage during rotational leave.
  • Drive strategic initiatives and implement innovative solutions to optimize camp operations. Foster a culture of inclusion, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated issues, liaise with project management, contractors, and external vendors, and resolve operational challenges creatively and effectively.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 13+ years of relevant experience, or 17+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated expertise in camp logistics, transport, catering, and general services for camp population of >1,000
  • Non-construction hospitality management experience may be considered
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to resolve complex issues and implement effective solutions
  • Proficiency in using logistics management systems and databases
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and strategic initiatives
