Project Overview:

Bechtel has been engaged to provide EPCM services to replace three (3) existing bucketwheel reclaimers at Rio Tinto’s Parker Point facility at Dampier in northwest Australia.

 

The Project includes the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of the new bucketwheel reclaimers as well as design and construction of associated off-board scope, including earthworks, marine infrastructure, structural works and electrical upgrades to support the installation and operation of the new reclaimers.

 

An opportunity exists within the Bechtel project team for a Shutdown Coordinator to work closely with our customer in a planned series of shutdowns to enable the project to tie into the existing operating stockyard.

 

Job Summary:

The Shutdown Coordinator is responsible for coordinating field construction operations within a brownfield environment of an existing iron ore stockyard facility.  

 

This position requires experience with shutdown management and planning, including: 

  • Schedules work to be performed, and reviews work accomplished by contractors.
  • Performs general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions.
  • Participates in the development of scopes of work, budgets, contract formation, and negotiations.
  • Supports, coordinates and reports field activities of shutdown scopes.
  • Reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.
  • Responsible for the development of level 4 and level 5 project schedules.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with established area operational processes and project workforce to execute planned shutdown workplans.
  • Monitor work progress as well as preparing reports and forecasts.
  • Coordinate activities with other disciplines or areas and customer representatives, as instructed by construction management.
  • Implement assigned project analysis tools and decision making in the execution of duties.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in Construction. 
  • A recognized degree in a job-related engineering or scientific discipline or specialized courses in construction technology and management will be considered however prior practical work experience leading to a thorough understanding of shutdown delivery is a requirement.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive shutdown experience for large project application. 
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment that incorporates client project and operations teams, contractor and specialty service providers, in a very specific time-related delivery schedule for a major facility shutdown.
  • Knowledge of multi-discipline construction and previous experience of working with Operations personnel.  
  • Knowledge of construction monitoring and analysis tools and methodologies, and of supervisory functions relating to field activities.
  • Knowledge of the use of procurement orders and contracts, and the contractor and subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in documents.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Able to work under job-site conditions.
