Project Overview:

The Project includes the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of 3 new bucket-wheel reclaimers including associated structural, mechanical, electrical and communications services.

The Project also includes the design and construction of associated off-board scope including bulk earthworks, civil infrastructure, structural works and electrical upgrades to support the functionally safe operation of the new reclaimers.

Job Summary:

Assigned to the project team as a representative of the Construction functional group and serves as a link between Construction and Customer Operations team to prepare for and coordinate shutdowns in accordance with the Customer Maintenance Shut Forum requirements. 

Working directly with the Project Shutdown Coordinator, ensures that construction and shutdown requirements are made known to the project team in a timely manner and obtains construction responses to the needs of the Customer Operations team. 

Performs the duties of direct staff assistant to the Shutdown Coordinator and functions as the liaison between office entities, field construction and Customer Operations.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Interfaces with Construction Engineering groups and Customer Operations to develop the most economical construction methods and techniques.
  • Prepares construction drawings and sketches.
  • Assists in the preparations of projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements.
  • Reviews and provides input to installation work packages for assigned scopes
  • Supports with verification of change notices and amendments.
  • Assembles cost estimates and reviews project design and engineering bill of materials.
  • Assists with planning shutdown execution, including installation sequence and resource loading.
  • Reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.
  • Provides engineering assistance to Shutdown Coordinator, superintendents or other personnel.
  • Verifies material quality, workmanship, and assures results meet quality requirements based on codes, specifications and design drawings.
  • Other tasks as designated.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Performs duties under moderate supervision with some latitude for judgement.
  • Typically requires bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of relevant experience, or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of a specific construction engineering discipline gained through a combination of related education and construction experience.
  • Broad based knowledge of the function and interrelationships of field construction entities and operations.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel Construction Standard Work Process Procedures.
  • Understands and applies the requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes to area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of the impact and effect of using field automation tools.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance laws and requirements.
  • Knowledge of government compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Safety Philosophy.
  • Knowledge of current industry standards.
  • Technical educational courses that may be applied to engineering activities as well as experience in construction engineering which includes supervisory responsibilities and technical guidance of junior field engineers.
