Project Overview:

Pluto Train 2 is the expansion of a second LNG train at the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility near Karratha in Western Australia run by Woodside Energy. 

Pluto Train 2 will process Scarborough gas and have an LNG capacity of ~5 million tonnes per annum. As part of the construction of Pluto Train 2, additional domestic gas infrastructure will be installed to increase capacity to ~225 Terajoules per day.   

Woodside Energy has selected Bechtel to deliver the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning scope of work for Pluto Train 2.

Job Summary:

Within the Mechanical Discipline, you will provide knowledge, expertise, input, training, and consultative support for a discipline or process required for facility commissioning and startup. You will participate in work planning and packaging, turnover coordination, material management and quantities, quality control, and environmental safety and health. You will be an essential resource for specialized technical advice. 

Major Responsibilities:

General:

  • Leads support of basic Startup Specialist duties of installation configuration validation and work package development 
  • Ensures technical direction to subcontractors completing commissioning & startup (CSU) activities, subcontractor field support, field inspections, completing ITR’s for CSU activities, and quantity tracking

Work Planning & Packaging:

  • Plans and schedules CSU execution activities including sequence and resource requirements for assigned areas of responsibility 
  • Prepares Startup Work Packages and Test Work Packages for assigned areas of responsibility 

Turnover Coordination:

  • Participates in Construction to CSU turnover walkdowns for assign areas of responsibility 
  • Interfaces with the Field Engineer as required to support component/system turnover 

Material Mgmt. & Quantities:

  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases and prepares quantity take offs of field purchased material and equipment 
  • Tracks field purchases and other purchases required for CSU using procurement systems or other database programs as required

Quality Control:

  • Performs walkdowns to validate that the system configuration is in accordance with the design 
  • Performs and/or monitors testing of equipment to assure conformance with specifications and compliance with test procedures, that work methods are undertaken safely and activities are supported to meet schedule and cost 

ES&H:

  • Identifies and resolves/elevates ES&H issues in the field and is a visible 'walk the talk' leader in good ES&H practices 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 10+ years relevant field experience
  • Trade Qualification in Mechanical Fitting or Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Sound knowledge and experience in the installation and alignment of both rotating and static equipment
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of startup, operations, or maintenance for a project, including reviews of designs for plant operability and safety and jobsite pre-commissioning and startup assignments as directed. 
  • Performs work that involves conventional practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting requirements, unsuitability of conventional methods, or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Assists with the preparation of operations manuals.
  • Plans, guides, or prepares project administrative and technical documents as required for startup, maintenance, operation, or testing.
  • Coordinates startup between project engineering, construction, specialty staff groups, clients, and vendors.
  • Assumes a lead role over other engineers for specific tasks as assigned. May direct overall startup activities on specific assignments.
  • Trains assigned personnel and assists them in their professional development.
  • Technical knowledge of startup, operation, maintenance, or testing.  
  • Knowledge of engineering systems, applications of startup and operations and basic knowledge of application of computers to engineering problems.
  • Broad knowledge of precedents in the startup or operations area and a good knowledge of principles and practices of related areas.
  • Good knowledge of industry or regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to plant or equipment operations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Plans and coordinates independent work requiring judgment and experience in the application and substantial adaptation of operations and startup techniques. Devises new approaches to operations problems.
  • Provides startup, maintenance, operation or testing direction to subordinate senior startup engineers, engineers, technicians, crafts or others as assigned for specific projects or tasks.
  • Broad knowledge of precedents in the industry.

Additional Information

This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction and/or operations site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, variable work shifts (e.g., day, night, weekends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, etc.), and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.).

The Pluto Train 2 Project is a Major Hazard Facility meaning this is a non-smoking site and no tobacco products – i.e. cigarettes, vapes, lighters, tobacco - are permitted to be brought to the site.
