Project Overview:
Pluto Train 2 is the expansion of a second LNG train at the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility near Karratha in Western Australia run by Woodside Energy.
Pluto Train 2 will process Scarborough gas and have an LNG capacity of ~5 million tonnes per annum. As part of the construction of Pluto Train 2, additional domestic gas infrastructure will be installed to increase capacity to ~225 Terajoules per day.
Woodside Energy has selected Bechtel to deliver the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning scope of work for Pluto Train 2.

Position Overview:
The Material Coordinator (MC) implements the Project Material Managements Plan (MMP) and coordinates the Specification, Identification and Quantification work processes with Engineering and Construction from the project jobsite location. The MC ensures consistent material identification methodology and clearly defined commodity work process responsibilities between project functions allow for an efficient and economical purchase and supply process.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in finalizing the MMP.
- Identify and help resolve any deviations and obtain approval for any changes to the plan during the execution of the Project.
- Assist in finalizing the MRM.
- Coordinate any deviations or required changes with affected parties on the Project.
- Understand the materials components of the Project Automation Plan used by functional groups and monitor related data transfers between the groups.
- Where necessary, participate in preparation of easy-to-follow Project-specific desktop instructions for use by the functional groups regarding automation interfaces on materials-related transfers.
- Understand construction activities and the advance work package structure for the Project.
- Ensure the material identification methodology permits accurate status and distribution of materials according to the priority and sequence of construction schedule and activities as allocated in the MAP(Material Allocation Planner).
- Work with functional groups to determine the best strategy for fabricated systems that will provide the best overall value for the Project.
- Identify any “special” or potentially lengthy approval requirements that could impact the timely issuance of the key engineering deliverables that drive the materials work process.
- Assist Engineering in identifying all critical design drawings and data required from Suppliers that may affect the timely issuance of other design deliverables or are needed by Construction ahead of material deliveries.
- Facilitate Engineering implementation of the Project component numbering approach (including tagged materials, bulk materials, and spares) as required for sound materials management practices and the project Automation Plan.
- Work with Engineering to verify that material requisitions clearly identify required pay items and reflect a level of detail whereby materials can be shipped and identified for storage and control prior to distribution to Construction for installation.
- Monitors Procurement reports and activities to ensure that purchasing and expediting are working effectively to maintain milestone schedule dates.
- Formulates specialized training and career development programs necessary to assure that all assigned material management personnel are properly trained and qualified.
- The MC maintains direct working relationships with Project Controls, Discipline Engineers, Procurement, Automation Support, Construction Teams, Multi-Project Acquisition Groups, Suppliers, and Customer representatives.
- Support day to day requirements regarding SiteSense transactions including MRR, MWR, UOS&D, Inventory transfers & reporting.
- Other job duties as assigned by the MM
REQUIRED: Mobility: If required must be prepared to travel globally to suppliers’ facilities.
Job Knowledge:
- Advanced knowledge of all procurement operations related to the management of materials at area, regional, temporary and jobsite office locations.
- Advance knowledge on the management of material fabricators.
- Advanced knowledge in Field Engineering and Construction activities, and knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures related to materials management functions.
- Advanced knowledge of all Engineering disciplines, the work process and the deliverables produced.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable Bechtel policies, instructions, and Procurement procedures and guidelines.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of the Digital Supply Chain System, Engineering tools and other project data systems.
- Prior experience in major global, direct hire and contract management projects, which include Engineering, Procurement, and materials control activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor in Science or equivalent, in Supply Chain or Field Engineering related fields is preferred. and 9+ years’ experience in project-based materials management of major equipment and bulk materials.
- Experience on a major module project is preferred.
- Has worked on large projects (>$2 billion) involving multi-office global execution and logistics. Certified Bechtel “Supply Chain Specialist” is an asset Advanced knowledge of front-end materials management work processes and systems expertise.
- Advanced knowledge of project Procurement operations related to the acquisition of materials on projects.
- Advanced knowledge of Engineering disciplines, the work process and the deliverables produced.
- Knowledge of Bechtel’s Digital Supply Chain System materials management aspects of drawing takeoff input, Material Acquisition Planner, input of requisitions, and goods and services codes is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of supplier / fabricator data systems and how those systems can interact with DSCS is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of advanced work packaging, pre-buy methodology, and materials status reporting.
- Advanced knowledge in Field Engineering and Construction activities, and knowledge of Integrated Work Process Procedures related to materials management functions.
- Preferred – familiarity with equipment and processes associated to LNG plants
Additional Information
This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction and/or operations site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, variable work shifts (e.g., day, night, weekends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, etc.), and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.).
The Pluto Train 2 Project is a Major Hazard Facility meaning this is a non-smoking site and no tobacco products – i.e. cigarettes, vapes, lighters, tobacco - are permitted to be brought to the site.
