Project Overview:
Bechtel is a global provider of engineering, construction, and project management services with a reputation for excellence and innovative project delivery. An immediate opportunity exists, within our Energy business unit for a prospective development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing train located on the Burrup Peninsula, near Karratha in Western Australia.
Woodside has operated Pluto LNG since start up in 2012. Gas from the offshore Pluto and Xena fields is piped through a 180-kilometre pipeline to Pluto LNG’s single onshore LNG processing train. Woodside’s preferred development concept for the Scarborough gas field is through a brownfield expansion of Pluto LNG. The project which will include the construction of a second gas processing train (Train 2) that will have a capacity of about 5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).
Job Summary:
As the Lead Planner/Scheduler you will supervise schedule development, maintenance, monitoring, and recovery plan development activities. This role is responsible for scheduling activities for large projects; or major projects with significant non-routine requirements and supports/performs project organizational and administrative activities. Demonstrated skill in identifying, assessing, and providing innovative solutions to planning and scheduling problems, this position provides generally non-routine scheduling guidance to projects.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provides supervision, technical & operational directions and assistance to assigned personnel in the development and integration of individual schedules into the total project plan.
- Independently develops and maintains achievable, resource loaded, logic driven project schedules that integrate Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Start-up and/or Operations work scope into a total project plan that meets the project’s delivery objectives
- Provides comments and recommendations for planning requirements relative to staffing and project controls. Prepares detailed staffing plans for jobsite activities and functions
- Reviews or assists in reviewing proposal provisions related to schedule and material control, and develops supporting data for contract negotiations.
- Interfaces with designated Bechtel management and client counterparts for specific planning and scheduling tasks.
- Participates in developing and presenting training classes on designated subjects and on-the-job training for specific processes and practices.
- Conducts personnel performance reviews. Interviews candidates and makes recommendations for employment decisions.
- Supervises the collection, verification, and integration of work scope for all entities into the total project plan.
- Plans and supervises the effort to establish milestones for the total project or major portions of the project.
- Leads working and management level schedule meetings – both routine and special purpose to ensure project schedule is progressing as plan
- Leads the development and review of schedule recovery plans, including evaluation of additional resources/costs required to affect such plans.
- Prepares presentations and presents planning and scheduling information to management/clients.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
- Experience and demonstrated skill in completing and directing project planning / scheduling activities across a broad range of civil, SMP, E&I work tasks together with interfaces with approvals, operations & maintenance and owners team interfaces.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing planning and scheduling functions, which include schedule development, control, and analysis, in the field and the home office.
- Knowledge of supervision, personnel administration, and training of technical and non-technical personnel.
- Advanced level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and startup work processes, as performed by Bechtel.
- Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct, perform, review, and present schedule products independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience on major lump sum projects with direct hire construction strategy is required
- Experience on LNG projects is preferred
Note: Candidate must have the right to work in Australia and be willing to live at the jobsite camp.
Additional Information:
This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction and/or operations site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, variable work shifts (e.g., day, night, weekends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, etc.), and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.).
The Pluto Train 2 Project is a Major Hazard Facility meaning this is a non-smoking site and no tobacco products – i.e. cigarettes, vapes, lighters, tobacco - are permitted to be brought to the site.
This position is available to both local and non-local personnel. For non-locals (FIFO/DIDO), the working roster is 3/1.
