Project Overview:

Pluto Train 2 is the expansion of a second LNG train at the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility near Karratha in Western Australia run by Woodside Energy. 

Woodside Energy is Australia's leading natural gas producer, and Bechtel is excited to be working with this key customer to help meet the increasing global demand for LNG as a transitional energy source.

 

Job Summary:

As Environmental Lead, you will oversee preparation and implementation of a project Environmental Management Plan and supervise a team to support plan integration, execution and commissioning and startup.

You will work with functional leads, evaluate performance trends, and provide technical guidance on mitigation measures.

Your leadership will ensure protection of environmentally sensitive areas, species, and communities.

 

Major Responsibilities:

Level 1

  • Supervises a component of an environmental program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects. 
  • Supervises assigned environmental personnel and provides guidance on their work activities. 
  • Provides technical support within ESH teams and to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Startup, Operations, Legal, Contracts, Procurement, Management, and other functions regarding ESH program execution. 
  • Confirms that environmental requirements are integrated in planning documents, design criteria, construction and commissioning plans, schedules, and subcontract documents. 
  • Prepares, or helps prepare, Environmental Management Plans and associated environmental plans, and awareness and training programs, in compliance with Bechtel standards, the ESH Management System, and contract and regulatory requirements. 
  • Emphasizes and uses risk assessment, data analysis, and Bechtel’s ESH Management System to help track and achieve continual improvement. 
  • Other responsibilities as designated.  

Level 2

  • Supervises an environmental services program, or a major component of it, inclusive of technical and administrative aspects. 
  • Ensures that environmental requirements are integrated within bid proposals, planning documents, design criteria, construction and commissioning plans, schedules, and subcontract documents.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Level 1

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience​

Level 2

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Prior experience in field monitoring and compliance, and some experience in Environmental Management Systems, leadership, technical and report writing
  • Demonstrated experienced in regulatory applications and approval processes
  • Prior experience in establishing an Environmental Management System, including technical standards and field execution, leadership and mentoring, managing subcontractors/consultants, and regulatory engagement and report writing
  • Experience and knowledge with implementing industry Best Management Practices standards on environmental compliance, emissions, hazardous materials and waste management.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction systems, work processes and execution in LNG commissioning and startup an advantage.
  • Skilled in working collaboratively with others in a complex integrated environment.

Additional Information:

This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction and/or operations site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, variable work shifts (e.g., day, night, weekends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, etc.), and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.).

The Pluto Train 2 Project is a Major Hazard Facility meaning this is a non-smoking site and no tobacco products – i.e. cigarettes, vapes, lighters, tobacco - are permitted to be brought to the site. 

This position is available to both local and non-local personnel.  For non-locals (FIFO/DIDO), the working roster is 3/1.
