Project Overview:
Bechtel has been engaged to provide EPCM services to replace three (3) existing bucketwheel reclaimers at Rio Tinto’s Parker Point facility at Dampier in northwest Australia. The Project includes the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of the new bucketwheel reclaimers as well as design and construction of associated off-board scope, including earthworks, marine infrastructure, structural works and electrical upgrades to support the installation and operation of the new reclaimers. An opportunity exists within the Bechtel project team for an Electrical Field Engineer to oversee the E&I aspects of the site works.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. As the Electrical Field Engineer, you will provide leadership on Electrical & Instrumentation construction engineering work for the Project.
Major Responsibilities:
- Acting as point of contact for coordination and resolution of technical issues related to E&I contractors on site.
- Developing / reviewing work packages in support of the construction schedule.
- Prepares construction drawings and sketches.
- Initiates requisitions for field purchases
- Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
- Verifies installed commodities in the field and inputs in the Project quantity tracking system.
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
- Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping.
- Reviews and approves inspection test plans.
- Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals.
- Verifies installations against relevant standards, specifications and design drawings.
- Trouble-shooting the design and resolving issues with engineering and/or fabricator using formal field documentation processes.
- Leads preparation of construction drawings and the design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation and review of "as built" drawings.
- Completes system walk-downs, deficiency tracking, and close-out in support of the Project turnover works.
- Functions as the lead discipline E&I field engineer, coordinating related discipline activities and interfacing with other areas/disciplines on the jobsite.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of electrical and/or instrumentation engineering and construction methods customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience
- Good knowledge in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other common applications used in the construction industry.
- Ability to problem-solve in high pressure situations.
- Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication.
