Project Overview:

Pluto Train 2 is the expansion of a second LNG train at the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility near Karratha in Western Australia run by Woodside Energy. 

Pluto Train 2 will process Scarborough gas and have an LNG capacity of ~5 million tonnes per annum. As part of the construction of Pluto Train 2, additional domestic gas infrastructure will be installed to increase capacity to ~225 Terajoules per day.   

Woodside Energy has selected Bechtel to deliver the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning scope of work for Pluto Train 2. 

Woodside Energy is Australia's leading natural gas producer, and Bechtel is excited to be working with this key customer to help meet the increasing global demand for LNG as a transitional energy source.

Job Summary:

The Craft Supervisor – Mechanical is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the Mechanical discipline. Ensures assigned construction operations and contractors performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and directs Craft Professionals in construction activities within assigned area.
  • Perform employee reviews and identify training and development opportunities for subordinate personnel.
  • Input craft time records using established automated tools.
  • Completing performance evaluations on direct reports.
  • Provide leadership for safety, accident and fire prevention on the project. This includes safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings.
  • Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor.
  • Implementation of ZERO Accident Philosophy. Ensure that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
  • Monitor the activities of subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.
  • Interface with Labor/Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs.
  • Responsible for implementing corporate project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned mechanical operations.
  • Coordinate established area operational plans.
  • Provide input to quantity tracking application and report weekly installed quantities to Lead Mechanical Superintendent.
  • Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through Procurement to obtain these materials.
  • Plan the manpower and equipment required to execute the job.
  • Perform other duties as required by Lead Mechanical Superintendent
  • May be required to work in Brownfield environment and assist with the organization of permits to perform tasks

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 10+ years relevant field experience
  • Trade Qualification in Mechanical Fitting or Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Sound knowledge and experience in the installation and alignment of both rotating and static equipment
  • Knowledge of EPCM contract Management, and the Contractor(s) and their subcontractor’s (if applicable) responsibilities. Knowledge of construction technologies. Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities. Familiarity with current industry quality standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Previous experience with the installation and alignment of GE turbine driven compressor packages and associated equipment including ducting and fire suppression systems highly regarded

Additional Information

This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction and/or operations site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, variable work shifts (e.g., day, night, weekends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, etc.), and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.).

The Pluto Train 2 Project is a Major Hazard Facility meaning this is a non-smoking site and no tobacco products – i.e. cigarettes, vapes, lighters, tobacco - are permitted to be brought to the site.
