Project Overview:
After more than 35 years’ operating as a successful uranium mine, the Ranger Project is entering its rehabilitation stage. Bechtel will be working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. A collaborative project, this project will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru community. Located 8 km east of Jabiru and 260 km south-east of Darwin, the Ranger Project will lead the way in the fast-growing area of mining closures. Interested to learn more? Job Summary:
In this role, you will provide expertise to support the evaluation of assets across the Ranger Mine and identify effective and efficient disposal methods for assets in line with scheduled closure / demolition activities. Disposal methods may include sales of assets through auctions, scrapping of assets, onsite disposal in a pit or others.
You will monitor and organize subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities on a complex project with multiple stakeholders’ involvement, through the coordination and instruction of subcontractor’s management staff. Your field supervision will help ensure operations are planned to coincide with overall established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely.
Major Responsibilities:
General
- Monitors and directs subcontractor activities, through coordination and instruction of subcontractors' management staff within the area of responsibility.
- Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management such as back-to-back coverage with other Superintendents.
Planning
- Reviews and monitors subcontractor construction schedules, resource charts, and material and equipment requirements.
- Reviews and approves where necessary, subcontractor construction methods, schedules, manning charts, and material and equipment requirements.
- Lead the preparation of the 3 weeks look ahead schedules and budget control with assistance from Project Controls.
- Provide input to quantity tracking application and report weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.
- Prepare reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.
Safety / Quality
- Provide leadership for safety on the project. This includes safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings.
- Inspect site for unsafe conditions and practices and take appropriate corrective action to correct breaches. Champion the cause of ZERO Accident Philosophy. Ensure that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.
- Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements
- Implements and enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by field construction management.
Technical
- Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents
- Ensure the most current design documents are provided to subcontractor to complete work, and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
- Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals.
- Coordinates with engineering on constructability issues.
- Writing scope of work documents for packages of work to be awarded to sub-contractors.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- The requisite level of capability is normally acquired through a minimum of 15 years in demonstrated capacity – along with a recognized technical degree or certification or recognised prior practical work experience in construction.
- Knowledge of close client secondment interaction, EPCM contract Management, and the Contractor(s) and their subcontractor’s responsibilities.
- Knowledge of construction technologies & supervisory functions relating to field activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program or similar. Extensive experience in construction of large projects, and able to undertake and administer small to medium capital projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills must be computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
- Trade background desirable and experience in industrial demolition highly advantageous.
- Proven customer relationship skills are essential.
