Project Overview:

After more than 35 years operating as a successful uranium mine, the Ranger Project is entering its rehabilitation stage. Bechtel will be working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. A collaborative project, this project will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru community.

 

Located 8 km east of Jabiru and 260 km south-east of Darwin, the Ranger Project will lead the way in the fast-growing area of mining closures. This role is offered on a 2:1 FIFO roster, Interested to learn more?

Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead a team of highly skilled construction professionals. You will lead subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities on a complex project with multiple stakeholders’ involvement. You will liaise with Project leadership and the subcontractor’s management team, coordinating the delivery of work packages on time and on budget. Your field management will help ensure operations are planned to coincide with overall established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely.

 

The role includes providing coverage for the construction manager during regular roster leave, and other planned leave.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and directs subcontractor activities, work progress, and employee development.
  • Provide leadership for safety on the project. This includes preparation of safety procedures/documents, leading safety investigations and playing a leading role in risk management within areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for implementing corporate project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Lead the preparation of the look ahead schedule and budget control with assistance from Project Controls.
  • Provide input to quantity tracking application and report weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.
  • Prepare reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.
  • Prepare scopes of work as required and work closely with Supply Chain to engage vendors and contractors.
  • Work closely with Human Resources professionals to recruit, onboard and manage subordinate personnel.
  • Perform employee reviews and identify training and development opportunities for subordinate personnel.
  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Supervisors, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
  • Coordinates with design engineering on constructability issues.
  • Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors, Supervisors and Craft Professionals.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires 14 – 17 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant Degree, Diploma, or relevant working experience
  • Recognised industry supervision qualifications such as G1, G8 & G9.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership in Environmental, Safety and health (ES&H) and to a zero-incident program or similar.
  • Knowledge of EPCM contract Management, and the Contractor(s) and their subcontractor’s (if applicable) responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of construction technologies & supervisory functions relating to field activities.
  • Excellent presentation, and both oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with reporting safety, progress and challenges to senior project management.  
  • Demonstrated experience with cross discipline supervision in areas such as structural, piping, earthworks and project in-directs.
  • It is highly advantageous to have experience in structural, mechanical and civil deconstruction and demolition.
