Role Overview

Civil, Structural & Architectural Engineering work in the Petrochemical, Refinery, and LNG industries.  Positions will be both project and functional.  Project types will include: Gas Processing, Petrochemical, Refinery and LNG.


Essential Job Duties

  1. Civil/Structural design and analysis of an assigned scope of work for a Bechtel project or for CSA staff group. This will involve preparation of or review of Specifications, Design Criteria, Material Requisitions and Sub-contract definitions.
  2. Work involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as design of modules to be transported over land or over sea involving acceleration forces due to transportation conditions. Bechtel design guides, internal training & day-to-day coaching by experienced co-workers or supervisors shall be available.
  3. Work shall involve 3-D modeling of structures, foundations and buildings, where all other disciplines shall also input their commodities.
  4. CSA engineers are required to be in continuous coordination with the other disciplines for successful clash-free design.
  5. CSA Engineer may be involved in assisting evaluation of bids and recommendation for construction work awards.
  6. When required, CSA engineers shall be involved in checking and reviewing mechanical, electrical & control system vendor drawings and data for correct support details and loads on the structures and foundations, and shall participate in model reviews.
  7. CSA Engineer shall be responsible for preparation of structural calculations and review of structural and reinforcing steel shop drawings, structural steel connection details, piling location plans and foundation details.
  8. A CSA Engineer may be required to assist in cost estimates and quantity take-offs.
  9. CSA Engineer shall receive directions from CSA Area Lead, Engineering Group Supervisor or a Senior Engineer.
  10.  CSA Engineer may provide directions to designers, drafters, technicians and less-experienced engineers.


Basic Qualifications

  1. BS in Civil / Structural Engineering
  2. Minimum EIT and preferably PE registration
  3. Must be familiar and proficient with analysis & design software such as STAAD-Pro or equal
  4. Must be familiar and proficient with foundation design software such as Bechtel FOUNDS or equal
  5. Must be familiar with Finite Element analysis and design of mat foundations on soil-supported or pile-supported springs
  6. Must be familiar with AISC, ACI, ASCE, AWS codes and standards. Previous experience and knowledge of Euro, Indian and Australian codes and standards shall be an added advantage.
  7. Experience in 3-D modeling with SP3D or similar systems shall be great advantage


Additional Information

Preferred qualification/experience:  3-5 years of project experience covering job description as noted.
