Sr. LNG Technology Manager

Independently performs highly complex professional engineering or scientific assignments demanding unique contributions calling for the application of advanced specialized engineering or scientific principles, the results of which occasionally involve advancements to the state-of-the-art.  As assigned, leads a small group of high caliber technical personnel on important special studies or a unique segment of a client project.  Represents Bechtel in discussions with or presentations to client management or senior technical personnel, and in so doing may affect Bechtel’s image or objectives.  Is recognized and respected within the industry and among Bechtel clients for expertise in the specialized field and has a national reputation.



A.  Supervision Received

  • Receives administrative supervision from the global business unit managers, Manager of Engineering, Manager of LNG Technology or other group/department manager with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.

B.  Supervision Exercised

  • Provides functional guidance to engineers, scientists or technicians; however, is not typically responsible for staff planning or salary administration.

C.  Contacts

  • Maintains continuing contact with senior management, other Bechtel personnel, client technical decision-makers, client representatives, suppliers, regulatory authorities, educational institutions and professional societies as required to obtain and exchange information pertinent to assignments.  Maintains contact with outside consultants.  Persuasion and diplomacy is required.



  1. Serves as consultant to global business units, project and specialty engineering or scientific groups providing advice and counsel on special and unique assignments.
  2. Reviews engineering or scientific concepts, drawings, calculations and specifications.
  3. Participates directly in new business efforts involving specialized and unique engineering or scientific applications.  Interviews client personnel to determine their needs, develops scope for cost estimates for services and participates in proposal preparation and presentation.
  4. Provides substantive guidance and direction to specialty scientific or engineering personnel in the development of advanced design criteria and specifications.
  5. Screens and recommends selection of special outside consultants; coordinates their activities and monitors their performance.
  6. Conducts or leads special studies on economic feasibility and on complex new technologies, methods and materials.
  7. Interprets new or special governmental regulations, engineering codes, standards, criteria and performance data.
  8. Develops and coordinates special technical educational and training programs for Bechtel personnel.
  9. Takes an active and visible role, representing Bechtel at professional conferences and on committees.
  10. Actively investigates, evaluates and contributes to technological/scientific advances in the specialized field, and keeps management informed on these important new advances.
  11. Provides professional guidance to senior management and senior client technical/scientific personnel.

  • Substantial and extraordinary technical knowledge in a LNG Liquefaction and specifically in APCI Liquefaction technologies, evidenced by national or worldwide recognition.
  • Knowledge of scientific or engineering systems, calculations, applications and construction methods and materials, and engineering or scientific application of computers.
  • Thorough knowledge of industrial and regulatory standards and design criteria in the engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.


The above is normally acquired through:

  • A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college, OR
  • A professional license in an appropriate discipline from a recognized licensing board, OR
  • Progressive work experience, preferably in staff design engineering, but may be in other relevant types of engineering including systems start-up, field engineering or plant operation of large-scale LNG Facilities, AND
  • Participation in the activities and proceedings of prestigious academic and professional societies and recognized national boards and bodies.
