Position Summary:

- Serves as lead or area lead on assigned project to develop an area from conceptual phase.
- Responsible for assigned activities within an engineering or design discipline in a global business unit.
- Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering in the preparation of designs and deliverables. Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on the project.
- Represents the discipline on the project and with the client as directed to resolve technical questions.
- Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from a Project Engineer, Engineering Manager, senior Supervising Designer, or Chief Engineer.
- Provides technical guidance to subordinate designers and drafters as assigned.
- Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews design work within a medium-size discipline work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit.
- Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters.
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
- Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
- Develops Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
- Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work.
- Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries.
- Coordinates assigned design work with other project groups.
- Mentors designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.

Qualifications and Skills:
Basic Qualifications
|
- Bachelors degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, from an accredited college or university and minimum 15+ years’ experience in plant layout for complex areas.
- Knowledge of systems, equipment, applications of design methods, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project design deliverables within the discipline.
- Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline.
- Good working knowledge of application of 2-D (MicroStation) and 3-D CAD tools (S3D software) in development of conceptual designs and production design deliverables of some complexity.
- Experience working on layout in LNG plants, ECU units, Hydrogen, Methanol plants or/and carbon capture.
- Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
- Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
- Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.
- Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards, and design and/or layout criteria.
- Good knowledge of Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
The above is normally acquired through:
- A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, from an accredited college or university, OR
- A professional license in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline, from a recognized licensing board, OR
- Specialized courses in relevant general design or an appropriate engineering discipline, AND
- Broad progressive work experience in design or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or engineering/ construction firms.
Preferred Qualifications:
Specific experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments:
- Natural gas processing including liquefaction and regasification
- Coal, gas or biomass to chemicals such as methanol and ammonia
- Petrochemicals such as HDPE, LDPE, MEG, PET, PTA, PVC and others
- Carbon capture and sequestration
- Solar and/or combined cycle power plants
- Hydrogen value chain including reforming, liquefaction, transportation and fueling stations
- Offshore and onshore pipelines
- Desalination, raw water, demineralized water and waste water treatment plants
- Familiarity with current process technologies and licensors associated with the above.
