Job Summary:
Bechtel is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to support major capital projects across Semiconductor, Pharmaceutical, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data Center markets. This role combines environmental engineering execution with design focused permitting support, ensuring environmental requirements are fully integrated into project planning, facility design, and regulatory compliance from early concept through EPC delivery.
The Senior Environmental Engineer develops and reviews environmental design deliverables and provides technical support to permitting activities in highly regulated industrial environments. "This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”. #LI-AM3
Major Responsibilities:
• Develop and review environmental engineering deliverables, including Basis of Design inputs, drainage and waste management philosophies, air emissions calculations, and overall emissions and discharge summaries.
• Integrate environmental requirements into engineering designs, specifications, and construction packages for advanced manufacturing and life science facilities.
• Provide technical support to environmental permitting efforts by supplying design related calculations, documentation, and regulatory interpretations.
• Support project teams by translating environmental regulations and permit conditions into clear engineering requirements.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, environmental specialists, clients, and external stakeholders to support compliant project execution.
• Communicate environmental and regulatory risks, constraints, and recommendations to project leadership.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14- 17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, or life sciences facilities.
- Working knowledge of U.S. environmental regulatory programs commonly applicable to Semiconductor and Pharmaceutical projects, such as: Clean Air Act (CAA) permitting (e.g., NSR/PSD, Title V, MACT/NESHAPs)
- Clean Water Act (CWA) programs (e.g., NPDES, industrial wastewater discharges)
- RCRA hazardous waste requirements
- EPCRA / Tier II chemical reporting
- Applicable state and local air quality district regulations
- Awareness of Pharmaceutical cGMP considerations (21 CFR Parts 210/211) as they interface with environmental design
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
