Project Overview:
Bechtel's Infrastructure and Power is an exciting and growing business unit that is actively involved with large scale combined cycle projects and behind-the-meter gigawatt scale microgrids for delivering power to Artificial Intelligence (AI) datacenters. The diverse portfolio also includes renewable energy projects encompassing Solar, Wind and Pumped Storage Hydro. Job Summary:
As Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be part of the functional team in the US that will provide oversight to project execution teams. You will be responsible for client interface and coordination of the Electrical design for the Project. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure uniquely complex requirements of a project’s electrical engineering aspects are met.#LI-HB1
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Travel Requirement: This position may involve frequent business travel to client or vendor facilities across the United States and Canada, as well as our engineering office in India.
Major Responsibilities:
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria for medium and large-scale projects.
- Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission and storage of electricity utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
- Coordinates electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups.
- Provides guidance to other electrical engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects.
- Provides technical assistance to other electrical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues.
- Provides functional oversight of electrical design performed by project teams or third-party engineering contractors to ensure compliance with project design basis, codes and industry standards.
- Performs electrical systems studies including load flow, short circuit and motor starting for sizing equipment.
- Prepares specifications, material requisitions and performs technical bid evaluations for major electrical equipment including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Load Banks, Large Power Transformers, HV Switchyards (AIS and GIS), and Prefabricated Substation buildings.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
- Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines.
- Experience as electrical responsible engineer for medium to large material requisitions (Transformers, Switchgear, Substations, etc).
- Knowledge of high voltage systems which includes but not limited to; HV switchyards (AIS and GIS) and Power Transformers.
- Knowledge of Power System One Lines, Schematics, and Connection Diagrams.
- Professional Registration License (P.E) in Electrical Engineering discipline.
- Proficient with using ETAP for performing electrical system studies (ability to perform Transient Stability Studies preferred).
- Prior experience as a Sr. Engineer on a medium-to-large-sized Industrial Project.
- Prior experience with EMS, BESS, STATCOMs or Microgrids preferred (but not required).
- Prior experience in coordination of design between multi-office EPC Contractor locations (India preferred) with client engineering team.
