Job Summary:

The Senior Automation / I&C Engineer will support the design and delivery of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. The role provides technical leadership to project teams, supports staffing and execution planning, and ensures high-quality system design, implementation, and lifecycle compliance. Experience with pharmaceutical utility systems is strongly preferred. #LI-AA1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead BMS/DCS system architecture, hardware and software design, delivery strategy, and factory acceptance testing (FAT).
  • Provide technical leadership for pharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory utility systems, including central and process utilities, ensuring systems meet GMP, regulatory, and intended-use requirements. 
  • Provide technical input for the BMS/DCS to meet procurement requirements.​  
  • Review and perform bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering​.  
  • Work closely with the customer to develop and deliver a BMS/DCS that meets the requirements for the project and manages software/hardware design, testing, startup, commissioning, and qualification for the system. 
  • Provide engineering support for Functional Safety Lifecycle activities in accordance with IEC 61511 / ISA-84. 
  • Provide technical oversight during development of equipment and process system User Requirements and related Design Review/Qualification documentation to ensure equipment and systems are appropriate for intended purpose. 
  • Create and review key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders for the project to which assigned​. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA studies for greenfield and brownfield projects. Including Functional Safety Lifecycle, Safety Specification Requirements, and SIL verification calculations. 
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical utility systems critical infrastructure components such as purified water, clean steam, HVAC, and compressed gases—to support manufacturing, ensuring product safety and regulatory compliance (GMP). 
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and control valves including specifications, generation of data sheets, application of tubing, and instrument installations. 
  • Knowledge of control system design including digital and analog control logic, control system network architecture, allocation of facility control system I/O, graphic displays, and acceptance tests. Includes knowledge of ISA-88/IEC 61512 Batch Control and Building Management System design.  
  • Demonstrated strong frontline leadership skills and emphasis on continuous improvement and team building and an ability to manage conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks. 
  • Ability to facilitate technical discussions with third parties (e.g., clients, suppliers, regulators). 
  • Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in pharmaceutical market. 
  • Required Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
