Rotating Equipment Engineer

Role Overview

  1. Performs work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  2. Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, material requisition, bid evaluations and award recommendations for rotating equipment.
  3. Coordinates Engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  4. Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to project management.
  5. Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
  6. Reviews vendor drawings, calculations and other documentation.
  7. Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  8. Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and equipment counts for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  9. Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers.
  10. Supports a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • In depth knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps and compressors) and electric motors.
  • Strong background with API 610 Centrifugal pumps and API 617 Centrifugal Compressors and gas seal systems.
  • Experience with Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, and reciprocating compressors is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline.

 

Additional Information

  • Applicant must have BSME or equivalent degree.
  • Experience with field installation / commissioning activities for rotating equipment is preferred.
  • PE preferred.

 

Role specific qualifications

Grade 25

  • 7 to 12 years of Rotating Equipment experience in Oil and Gas industry.
  • Participate in project model reviews and vendor kickoff meetings to support project schedule and technical design requirements.
  • Able to work with minimal direct supervision of day to day tasks (issue datasheets, material requisitions, bid evaluations) to meet project goals for cost and schedule.


Grade 26

  • 12+ years of Rotating Equipment experience in Oil and Gas industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards, as related to the equipment responsible for.
  • Able to provide training on rotating equipment systems for groups within and external to Mechanical Engineering, as required.
  • Participate in model reviews and equipment walkdown at vendor’s shop. Coordinate with other disciplines, vendor and client to resolve comments resulting from model reviews and equipment walkdowns.
  • Able to identify technical hurdles and/or design issues proactively, to address them ahead of project critical path.
  • Interested in participating in code/standards committees (ASME, API, etc.).
  • Able to mentor junior mechanical engineers handling compressors, pumps and packaged equipment.
