Project Overview:
The project will be performed predominantly on a direct hire basis with some specialty and service subcontractors. Unless otherwise indicated, applicants for construction positions must have heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken and the requirements identified below.
The Project Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of the construction operations, including all direct hire craft, indirect craft, and subcontractor work activities throughout the project process equipment, piperacks, and the associated utilities. The Project Superintendent will work with project controls to gain a full understanding of the schedule and cost components that will be utilized for tracking progress and performance in the field. The responsibilities of the Project Superintendent includes the following:
Implementing the project ES&H program and quality control program. Supervising the area superintendent that manages the craft workforce and the area field engineer that manages the technical and quality aspects of the area. Designating the locations for the tool rooms, rod rooms, workshops, lunchrooms, office trailers, material staging, and craft drop-off & pick-up points within the area. Coordinating the needs of the discipline superintendents for craft personnel, subcontractors, construction services, construction equipment, tools, and consumables as well as optimizing their utilization. Coordinating and approving the weekly work plans prepared by the area planners in conjunction with the discipline superintendents. Maintaining a high level of housekeeping thoughout the area. Managing the labor and material for scaffold erection, inspection, modification, and removal thoughout the area. Coordinating and supporting all subcontractor work activities within the area. Performing employee reviews for subordinate personnel and assisting in their development.
Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued personal protective equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. body harness, life vest, etc.)
Job Summary:
In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.
Major Responsibilities:
Specialization & Expertise
- Provides high level knowledge and is considered the SME in a particular discipline, subject matter, or specialized process required for construction (e.g., tunnel boring, site de-watering, glove boxes, special coatings systems, HVAC systems, Fire Detection and Suppression, reactor tender gallery coordinator, etc.) and to support Bechtel projects worldwide
- Provides expert technical consultation support to Bechtel projects worldwide and technical input and support for Work Process Procedure (WPP) development, lessons learned review, construction best practice identification, and participation on Six Sigma Process Improvement Program (PIP) teams when requested.
Work Planning & Packaging
- Leads preparation of construction drawings and schedules.
- Leads design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans.
Material Management
- Directs preparation of quantity listings of field purchased material and equipment.
Safety / Quality Control
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
Technical
- Works with construction engineers, discipline superintendents, foremen, and craft professionals in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents
- Oversees the testing of equipment, supports, and prepares construction test plans and records
STR / Subcontract Coordinator
- Reviews and approves inspection test plans
- Leads reviews of subcontractor submittals
Education and Experience Requirements:
Required bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:

Must have knowledge and understanding of all phases of construction operations at the jobsite.

Previous experience in a supervisory role such as an Area Superintendent, Project Superintendent, and/or Deputy Site Manager required.

Must be familiar with the Bechtel Business Ethics handbook and policies.

Must have knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Bechtel Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Core Processes and Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” philosophy.

Must have knowledge and understanding of Bechtel's Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs).

Must have knowledge and understanding of Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards and other automation tools which are used on Bechtel projects.

Must be computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in accordance with current BSAP standards.

Must be familiar with current industry quality standards and applicable code requirements.

Must have knowledge and understanding of the formation and administration of construction subcontracts.
